After hearing lots of positives on the Isobariks I'm going to pick up a pair this week. Can't wait to try them out.
A few questions though ---
Can the black bases be detached from the speakers for ease of transporting or are the crossovers in there (late 80s models)?
Can you bi-amp this speaker?
I've got 3 Niles SI245 amplifiers and can do a vertical biamping if the speaker will allow.
The amps are rated at 45wpc x 2 @ 8ohms / 70wpc x 2 @ 4 ohms / and are stable to 2ohms (wpc???).
Anything else I need to be cautioned of when setting them up???
They are in perfect condition and I'd like to keep them that way.
Also, the owner couldn't remember what he originally paid for them-what was the original MSRP (they are from the late 80s)?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

How long were these made. The original owner led me to believe they were from the early to mid 90's. However, looks to me like they were phased out around '87-88. Might be a late 80's model that I'm getting but definately not the 90's. He said they're perfect so I really don't care --- just curious.

When I sold them in the late 80's the list price with crossovers and stands was approx $6,000.
They sit on spike points on the stands so, yes, they can be taken off the stands.
If they are the vintage indicated, the crossovers sit inside the bottom of the stands, with short lengths of Linn K20 wire to attach them to the appropriate drivers.
They can be single amped, passively biamped or triamped as well as actively triamped with a Linn Aktiv crossover or an appropriate 3 way active crossover from someone else, Naim comes to mind.
I think if you go online to Linn's site they have an instruction manual for them that you can view or download.
Welcome to the Isobarik brotherhood!

Got the Isobariks. Great sounding speaker. I can tell already they will require a lot of tweaking to get them to sound right since both my Paradigm Studio 80s and Infinity Quantum 3s seem to have more bass/impact. Like I said more tweaking and power needed to get these ones to have the bass impact and to really sing. Helped out some of the unnatural midrange by using a parametric equalizer. For bass, in my room, the speakers are down -4db at 32hz and -7db at 25hz. There was a dip in the 125hz-315hz range. Bumped this area up a little bit. Currently only running one amp rated at 70wpc x 2 (4ohms). Have 2 more of these amps and may try the bi or triamping. I've attached some of the pics. I know the entertainment center probably needs to go...it's in the plans.

And regarding vintage, the serial #s are 7583 and 7584. So I think that puts it in the late 80s.

These are in fantastic condition jbbouwkamp.
I've seen some beat-up old pairs but these look fantastic. I have only ever heard one pair in action and it was in a record shop in Leeds, Uk but they sounded phenomenal. I've wanted a pair ever since but not managed to stump up the hefty price tag.
Do you mind if I ask what you paid given the condition?
thanks,
Phil.

A friend gifted me with the exploded view of a '86 vintage Briks with a complete parts listing.
Check out the inside!

That would explain the weight!!!! With the stands/crossovers I believe the speakers weight around 130lbs/ea. Thanks for the drawing. I've been wondering what they look like inside but have not dared try to figure out a way to open them up or even pull a driver out to look inside.
