View Full Version : Thorens TP22 tonearm - cartridge position fonon 05-06-2009, 06:17 AM Hi, How to match a cartridge position without the original pattern? F. hakaplan 05-07-2009, 01:04 PM If you cannot find the original information, you're best alternative would be to download the Baerwald and Stevenson protractors from vinylengine.com and try both to see which would work best with the available room you have in the headshell. fonon 05-07-2009, 02:27 PM Thank You for answer, but the universal protractors are not comfortable. Moreover, the problem with vertical alignment of cartridge remains. Regards, f. hakaplan 05-09-2009, 09:36 PM Thank You for answer, but the universal protractors are not comfortable. Moreover, the problem with vertical alignment of cartridge remains. Regards, f. By "not comfortable" do you mean you cannot achieve alignment due to limited slot room? Did you try both protractors? The Baerwald pushes the cartridge forward while the Stevenson pulls it back. One or the other usually works. As far as the vertical alignment, this is hardly critical. Typically you want the arm parallel to the record surface when the stylus is resting on it, and this is what is suggested in tables with VTA adjustment. Unless someone has this jig and can measure it for you, there is no way to know the actual position it dictated. This is a common problem with tts that came with jigs and no measurements to back them up. One wonders why mfrs never thought of the idea that owners would lose these. If you can supply me with the specs on this tonearm (length, mounting distance, offset angle, overhang--stuff like that) I'll see if I can come up with a way to align it. |
