A customer of mine just handed me a 2275 that quite literally is new-out-of-the-box. It is perfect, gorgeous, like going back into time and taking it home brand-new from the store. WOW.

It has a few problems, no doubt mostly due to old and leaky caps. Does anyone have a recap list for the 2275? Or am I going to have to do this the hard way?

Yeah, that's sorta mean to title a thread "Mint, absolutely MINT 2275" and we get all excited to see it, then...nothing. :tears: We don't see mint 2275's every day. I wanna see it. Please. :D

Well, I don't get to KEEP it, I get to fix all the things that go wrong with 30-year old products.

<sigh> I'll take a picture.

Sorry, guys, we're at the end of the day and the light is totally wrong for taking killer pics of vintage gear. This is the best I can do.

Wish I COULD keep this beauty! (So, WHO has the already-compiled cap list for the 2275?)

My cap list is in post 17. If you find any errors or omissions please let me know, it's a work in progress.

Tom, thanks. That will save me a boatload of research and work. Please let me know when I can return the favor.

Tuco: While I won't reveal my location beyond a region (Southern Cal), the photos were taken in my back yard. I truly am one of the luckiest people on the planet to have a view like this, and it never, ever gets old.

Hey, Tom, I have a question for you. Everyone has different philosophies when it comes to restoration. I see that you do something that I do not ordinarily do, and that's replace tantalums. In my experience, I have never found the need to change those out, I've always found them to either be perfect or toast, never in-between. Has your experience been different?

Also, I notice that you go ahead and sub these out with electrolytics. My guess would be that you suggest this because the leakage on the modern FC parts (I like those caps a lot. Fast, low ESR, great ripple current and they last a long, long time) is probably lower than the leakage on those original tantalums, but why not just sub like with like?

This is off-topic. If anyone objects to me putting this up, let me know and I'll yank it.

This was my visitor this morning.

Isn't she gorgeous? I think she was looking to walk off with the Marantz (or maybe just a mouse).

The newer ones are better than the old, but I have had so many bad experiences with tantalum caps, I just get rid of them as a matter of course.

First, let me say you live in a beautiful area. And that is one fine looking Marantz, no joke about that being mint! The bobcat is really cool though, wild cats are amazing animals. I'm going to guess you don't live near a city, with such visitors showing up!

Yeah, that bugger was definitely after the Marantz. That's the same look I get when I go for one!!:D

Wow! I had a hardtime looking at the 2275 due to the setting. I too had a restored 2270 and I enjoyed quite a bit. You certainly are fortunate to live there. How about the Denon in your sig? My PMA-2000ivr is one of my best.

yeah very pretty indeed, Pacific! I'd be crackin' my Indiana Jones whip at that wild cat if she got near my 2275:D Very pretty background too:) I myself am a fortunate owner of a 2275 with the WC22 Walnut case.

O.K. here's mine, it was rated 9.8 by a local tech who serviced it in March and it's my most prized audio possesion. Its basically museum grade and for all intent and purposes like new and by the way it sounds magical.

Done, done, done...

And after a 24-hr burn in (just to make SURE none of the replacement caps got in backwards), it's ready to go back.

Recapping vastly improved the sonics of this beauty. But it's definitely a lot of work.

Catrafter, I have your list edited and almost done, will send it to you.

Came up with an interesting way of clamping undersized filter caps. I ended up using a strip of foam camping mat. It compressed very nicely, and holds the parts perfectly in the stock clamps. And yes, the wire that is misdressed in the photo is fixed...

Anyway, I'm sure there will be more. I did not want to drag my tripod out for a "perfect" dark shot. This will have to do.
