I was reading through my owners manuals for the C46 and MC402. And couldn't find a suggested method for connecting a subwoofer.

I have a Janis W-1 and matching crossover/amp and was thinking of hooking it into my system just for the hell of it.

How would you do it?

Thanks.

WIth both my C2200 and ma MA6900 I used the second audio output RCA for it.

That way I can switch on or off the sub from my preamp by selecting output 2 or not. Of course I have the power control 2 connected to my subs as well.

I hope it helps,
B.

What about connecting the speakers to the sub and having only certain frequencies go through to the speakers

Is that not good?

Hepcat, I use a C-46 and 2 Velodyne DD 15'S through the output 2 via balanced cables, and the subs set at 50hz. It works like a charm. Hope this helps......

Thanks guys.

I've tried it both ways in the past - speaker wires through the sub amp/crossover and RCA cords from a second output. The latter seems easier just to try it out.

The manual for the Janis contains some unique instructions. It says to play the record or CD of "After the Ball", music and songs written around 1900 featuring Joan Morris mezzo-soprano, and William Bolcom, piano (pretty good too). It contains no low bass. It says to slowly adjust the bass level upward until you hear the subwoofer then back off slightly and you've got it set right.

It works. I've used it to set other subwoofers and it always gets it right.

You may have noticed that some people love to have their subwoofers set way too high. :nono::nono:

I'm sorry I couldn't locate it, but several months ago there was a thread that discussed in detail how to connect a subwoofer -- it was about more than just how to adjust the frequency and level. It also went beyond using the second preamp output from which to obtain signal for the sub. If you could dig that up, it would be very helpful.

Good luck.
