Los Lobos will be playing Friday June 19 at the Power Center in AA, probably one of the nicer places to hear music in the area.

My wife got us much better tickets by calling the box office instead of using the online service.

Botrytis, I think you could probably walk to their show at the Lowell Summer Music Series, June 27. Or better yet, come home for the show on the 19th in A-Squared and then go home for the show in Lowell on the 27 th!

Mr Mathers told me that Bastone's in Royal Oak has a superb IPA along with decent burgers. Might make for a good pre Trower stop.

A rare event indeed. At least I don't have to drive 2 hours this time. :thmbsp:

Music in Bay City, Are you shitting me?

First concert I ever saw was in Bay City. I was 14 or 15. Cheap Trick. Van Halen (on their first tour). Bob Seger.

Cheap Trick ended up being a no-show, but Van Halen totally stole the show. Well, at least for me they did.

The concert was in the football stadium at one of the local high schools.

Would love to see The Wolves again. I've got a fair collection of their music. Mostly on CD. I have:

- How Will the Wolf Survive? (vinyl and CD)
- Kiko (CD)
- Just Another Band from East LA (CD)
- Colossal Head (CD)
- Good Morning Azatlan (Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab stereo SACD)
- The Ride (CD)
- Ride This (CD)
- Live at the Fillmore (CD)
- The Town and the City (CD)

Music for and about grown men. Frankly, IMHO, the best rock band in America.

Los Lobos used to play free everywhere all the time. I saw them for free at Clark Univ. in Worcester, (my home), back in '82 - never seen in better.

I've seen Los Lobos four times. The first time was at Clutch Cargo's in Pontiac. The three times since then have all been free shows at things like Detroit's Concert of Colors and the Detroit Taste Fest (where they put on an awesome show - the first concert I took my sons to).

Ever since WDET changed its music format (and got rid of Martin Bandyke), Los Lobos doesn't seem to come to Detroit proper anymore. Martin, who does radio in Ann Arbor, is missed on the radio in Detroit.

WDET lost my pledge dollars when they changed formats a few years ago, though now that they have Ann DeLisi back on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, I'm tempted to start donating during her show. Plus, she's totally hot: http://wdetfm.org/ann-delisi.php

I still feel the sting from the slap in the face DET delivered when they changed programing after pledge week! My pledge money goes to WEMU these days.

I really can't get into Ann's new show. Every time I turn it on I find that I don't last for more than a couple songs. Looking at the playlists I really don't see anything interesting to me, seems 'plastic' for lack of a better term??

Maybe my tastes have changed, maybe it is still the sting.

BTW, I believe that picture is more than a few years old!

The sting was brutal. They ripped the guts out of the best progressive, adult music I've ever heard. Anywhere. A couple of years ago, they were doing another pledge drive where they talked about how much pride they took in involving their listeners in their programming choices. I wanted to call and make a pledge just so I could make a snide comment about where that spirit was when the changed formats in 2005.

Re the picture: I'm sure the picture is a few years old (or more than a few), too. I remember when she used to do a show from Channel 56, but she always gets my motor revving. She's got a voice and I love that stripe of white in her hair. And she knows music (at least better than the women DJs on the commercial stations).

I guess I'm not super-fond of her show, either, but it is a step in the right direction. I'm thinking back to my undergrad days as a psych minor and I'm considering the notion of successive approximation as applied by Behaviorists: reward a little move in the right direction, and you increase the likelihood of more moves in the right direction.

Her new show tends to be a bit on the clique-y side, but I like the fact that a lot of the music she plays are listeners' essential music, so I look at it as a great way to hear something other people have found they really like. I've heard a few interesting tracks by new artists, but it's always when I'm out and about so I can't record the vital info (artist, album, etc...).

I've also heard, though, that they have an HD-FM station that's all music. I just don't feel like buying an HD-FM tuner.
