Hey Everybody!

I have been listening to Mojo Presents Trojan Explosion/ 20 Reggae Classics in my car for about three weeks straight now. The CD is from 2002 back when Mojo only included a CD every other issue or so. A few years back they started putting a CD with every issue and I ended up with stacks of the things.

I got rid of a bunch at my yard sale, but kept about ten or so. I like the magazine a lot and some of those CDs are really great.

Three that stand out for me are the title mentioned above, Beatlemania - America Covers The Beatles and Instant Garage! - a killer comp of 60s punk.

Any body else have any favorite Mojo CDs?

Nope, but I used to subscribe to Jazziz magazine just for the CD in each issue. Still have years worth of music sitting on my shelves :)

Paste magazine has gone to the download format for their monthly comps--although they will send ya a cd if you write to request one. my favorite mojo comp is the 'love will tear us apart' one-- inspired covers of joy division -- whew, that one was great...

As a whole, I find the MOJO comps very well curated. Often, it's worth the U.S. cover price for the CD alone.

The other magazines' monthly promos are cool, but they've got nothing on MOJO.

oh boy, all those Trojan reissues are really tempting, i'm no expert but i seem to prefer 60s and early 70s reggae, this mojo cd really whets my apetite!

somewhere in my pile is another MOJO CD called Studio One Selecter which is just as good.

I think they sound good also!

I have a freind who likes to take 5 random MOJO CDs and put them in his changer and hit shuffle when he is having a dinner party. It's like the ultimate cool radio station or something.

I find them a bit patchy, some no better than collections of out of copyright material tacked to a vague theme, with others being spot on.
This month's Island records compilation is the latter. If you were new to most of the folk rock material from Island in the early 1970s then this would be the perfect into - some Incredible String Band, Dr Strangely Strange, John Martyn etc etc. All great stuff and well worth the cover price. Others? Not so sure.
But it's always worth checking the tracklists.

"Psych Out! " is a gem and features UK artists "from the scene that spawnwd Pink Floyd" I'll probably pick up the Island issue for the article as I'm sure I have all the Brit folk on vinyl.

what's cool about them is that one music fan may be not impressed, yet another may go "oh wow".

I didn't think i would be interested in the one called The Roots of Led Zeppelin, but it has turned out to be a favorite. It sure did make me go find some Garnett Mimms records fast!

I have a Lee "Scratch " Perry compilation which I think was from Mojo also: I am not certain. The "Studio One Selector" was attached to March 2005 MOJO magazine. I have both the CD and the Magazine which I regard as collectors items. The CD because it has an unusual picture of Bob Marley(very young-like a teenager-neatly trim and shaven) and the magazine because the cover story was about Bob in celebration of his 60 birthday.

The newest one I've seen is All the Young Dudes.
I really enjoyed the Mott the Hoople article.
I like the MOJO pieces because they always go beyond the facts that everybody knows about their favorite bands.

i missed the issue from a month ago with The Who on the cover and a big feature on Nick Lowe. The CD looked really good, had a cover that was a take off of a 13th floor evelvators lp. any body got that one?
