Does anyone listen to this guy?

His music is recorded very well. It's hard to classify, It's definatly modern, but not Pop. (It's got a nice mixture of acoustic). I think many of you might enjoy his stuff as much as I do.

Didn't get into his latest release as much as the previous 2 or 3, but still quality stuff.

I love Andrew Bird! His latest release Noble Beast is really great to listen to. I think all of his work is excellent. I saw him live twice, you really have to see his rotating horns that he plays his violin through!

IMHO, this guy is one of the best out there at the moment. I agree his latest isn't the best but still very good. Have any of you seen the wild homemade horn speakers he uses live?

What else out there is similar to his music? I need more good stuff to listen too.

He's fantastic. Used to live in my neighborhood, or, rather, I used to live in his in Chicago. Go see him live! he is off the charts good live. He did a free concert in Grant Park here in Chicago last year, and normally I'm not moved by outdoor shows but I found this completely captivating. The rotating horns are crazy, but seem to be functional.

He did two shows here in Austin...both sold out...you couldn't even get them on craigslist and the scalpers didn't have them because they had no clue who he was. I will eventually catch him live.

Vocally he sounds like Steve Malkmus of Pavement or the Silver Jews (but they have a bit more country sound to them). As far as the combination of whitty vocals and detailed musical arrangements you need to get Sufjan Stevens Illinoise and Michigan albums (the former if you only check out one). The Shins are also pretty good in this vein but a bit more poppy.

IMO nothing is similar to him.

Both of the concerts I've seen him at were outdoor, Zootunes (walking distance from my house)
and Bumbershoot 2007

IMO nothing is similar to him.

I'd tend to agree. Not many other exceptional whistlers in indie/pop these days.

Andrew Bird,

In my I-tunes playlist, I got him grouped with these other artists.

Amos lee, Ane Burn, Ani Difranco, Anthony & the Johnsons, Aqualung, Ben Lee, Carina Round, Cat Power, Daneille Evin, Elliot Smith, Elysian Feilds, Eszter Balint, Fiona Apple, Greg Graffin, Jesse Sykes, Jonatha Brooke, JoRane, Julie Doiron, Lady&Bird, Lhasa De Sela, Linda Perry, Lucinda Willams, Mark Lanegan Band, Michael J, Movietone, Murder by Death, Natalie Merchant, Nickle Creek, Paris Combo, Terry Hall, Tindersticks, Two Loons for Tea, Utah Phillips.

If you like Andrew, also check out the above artists, many are a long stretch. But they all give me a similar vibe. The closest match out of this collection might be Nickle Creek.

If you guys could also group similar vibed music with Andrew Bird, list your matches. I'd like to investigate them.

I saw him live last year. It was a treat, except for way too many technical problems. I think I only own two of his albums - Mysterious Production of Eggs, and Armchair Apochrypha.

I have three of his albums (Myst Prod Eggs, Armchair Apoch, and Noble Beasts) but didn't realize he has a few more including a really folky one released in 1992 that I can only find on MP3 now (sucks...I hate MP3). He was also involved with the Squirrel Nut Zippers. Brilliant musician. I saw a video online the other day where he and Yo Yo Ma did an improv session together.

I never knew he had this many. Looks like I now know where to look, right at the source.

I'd add M.Ward to your list. Very similar vibe. I think Andrew Bird is more interesting, M. Ward writes more typical 'songs', but I think he's good.
