Okay, here is the deal: You are CEO of Apple and you have to think of new and exciting Beatles products to slowly release to the Beatles fans around the world. What do you think Apple will eventually offer for sale? Here are some cds and dvds that I'm sure will hit the stores eventually.

1 Complete remastered Lp catalogue on vinyl (we all know the cds are on the way...vinyl HAS to be in the works)
2 Live At The Hollywood Bowl (an update to the long out of print Lp with complete, unedited shows). Apple will probable offer a cd and Lp version, and for extra cash there could be a dvd version with surround sound and include film footage.
3 Live at Shea Stadium...If you have seen The Beatles Anthology you know there is killer 35mm footage of the entire show (shot with 8 cameras).
4 Beatles Sing For Shell...the complete Sydney concert is available in excellent quality on dvd bootlegs. Just release the damn show officially!
5 Let It Be Movie...yeah, its in the works I'm sure. There will probably be two versions. One with the movie and one with "extra" footage.
6 Let it Be box set of outtakes
7 5.1 versions of every Lp
8 The Paul McCartney vault...its no secret that Paul has an active hand in acquiring Beatles rarities. Who knows what lurks in his archives?
9 Blu-ray versions of all movies...for gosh sakes, just put them in a reasonably priced boxset!
10 Okay, your turn...what is on the horizon?

No way have I "got it covered." How 'bout a Complete BBC Recording boxset (which already exists in the bootleg world as an amazing nine cd box)? Or maybe a Complete Hamburg box (a new live Hamburg tape was uncovered last year but Apple squashed its released...they probably own it now)? And lets not forget a super, expanded Anthology on blu ray...an additional hundred hours of footage has come to light in the last few years.

The Beatles last live show, at Candlestick Park SF, video would be cool.

Was that Candlestick Park show recorded professionally? I know there are bits and pieces of tv footage but I haven't heard of a full show in anyones collection.

If past history is any indication of how things will/may/can be released...I'll be dead from old age before ANY of it sees the light of day.

I remember there being bobble-head figurines of the Beatles back in the sixties, complete with their "mop top" hairdos, guitars, etc... I think they should re-release the Beatles Bobble-head Boxed Set, complete with certificate of authenticity!
:D

The other thing I'd like to see is a re-release of the MFSL original masters boxed set. Actually, I'd like to see one of the original sets show up at a local junk shop, marked surprisingly cheaply...
:D

There are so many "original" Beatles releases plus all the bootlegs plus occasional unreleased stuff, that the number of ways it all could be packaged is extremely large. It really comes down to marketing decisions: how much should be released in what format, at what intervals, to make the most money while protecting the brand image for the future.

I imagine if Paul McCartney (or Ringo Starr) still has significant input into such decisions(?), then some of the decisions may be based on personal preferences. Sometimes what people want to buy may not be the stuff the artist is most proud of.

I sort of lost track of who actually owns the rights to the Beatles music, after Michael Jackson relinquished control to avoid bankruptcy. Does anyone know the exact current legal status? Does the Apple CEO really have control over these decisions now, and if so, under whose aegis?

Arkay, you have hit my proposal idea on the head: "The number of ways it all could be packaged is extremely large." Creative packaging and occasional inclusion of rarites is the crux of the biscuit (as Zappa used to say). The scary thing is, for Apple, that the Beatle fanbase is possible on the wane. They really need to be flooding the existing music stores with product before the Nintendo generation takes over. Most teens today don't give a damn about The Beatles...which means that when those teens eventually (already?) have kids there will no Beatles music in the house!

You hit a very important point: they need to find a way to make the younger generation find the Beatles "hip" again, or the market will gradually disappear. It has been done successfully with Elvis and James Dean stuff; making them posthumously into trendy icons for generations who were born well after the artists died, but it takes marketing savvy. Almost no one today remembers or cares about Vaudeville, but a few later Vaudevillians who successfully transitioned to film, like Charlie Chaplin, are still remembered and still bring in profits, because they have been continuously and well marketed. Others from the same era are long forgotten by at least 99 percent of the population. Sic transit gloria mundi!

Applegate played "Yoko"? (Shades of John Wayne aka "Temujin" (Genghis Khan) in The Conqueror, 1956)

I'd like to see a nice Promo Video Compilation come out on DVD/Bluray. This should have been released in cunjunction with The Beatles 1. Of course Let It Be with a ton of unreleased footage on DVD/Bluray. A live multi disc retrospective on DVD/Bluray with the complete Washington, Australia, Paris, Munich and Japan concerts.
I guess just about anything of decent quality that has been bootlegged but not officially released.....with the emphasis on musical performances. You're right.....time is starting to run out whether some people want to believe it or not. Once the babyboomer generation (myself included) starts to die off the demand/interest and market share will continue to shrink. Here's wishing for some more significant Beatles Product to hit the shelves in the near future! The up-coming re-masters is a very good sign!

Geez, Grooveman, I forgot all about the official Beatles promo videos. The one that really springs to mind is Strawberry Fields Forever. There are also two wonderful versions of "We Can Work It Out." One version shows John mugging for the camera with a half-amused/half-disapproving Paul looking on. And was there ever an official re-release of The Beatles Xmas Lp? My dad got one in the mail in the late 60s. Pretty beat up now, but very cool nonetheless.

I remember the one filmed during "Help" where they're running up a sidewalk, George trips and falls down, then they show John laughing his ass off.

Yeah the Promos are LONG over due! I just hope when Apple does get around to putting them out, they're not edited together from all the different versions like they did in Anthology...keep them intact, the bootleggers have...lol!
The Christmas LP would be nice...originally only released thru the Fan Club. There are countless boots on LP/CD of the Christmas Messages.....some are excellent, but an official with some great outtakes would be great!

Arkay mentioned a new release of Beatles bobble-heads. Capital idea!

How about Beatles dolls, like those Japanese dolls that are so popular? There could be a line of accessories to go with the dolls ~ Beatles cloths, Beatles cars, dolls for Beatles spouses, children and friends. The possibilities are mind boggling.

Actually, there are some outtakes from the Xmas fan club sessions. Nothing mind-blowing, but you can tell that everyone is having fun. Those Xmas discs are a real window into 1960s rock: the first singles are all about "thank you for buying our discs" and they slowly morph into really demented psychedelic productions. On the last Xmas release John/Paul/Ringo/George just sound kinda tired! Cool! Oh yeah, might as well release the concerts from the Japan tour...but unlikely because the band is not sounding all that great.
