While on vacation with my wife I decided to surprise her with this Starbuck's CD. We were in Florida and mostly at the beach so "we be jammin'" seemed appropriate and completely out of character for me b:D

Our upgraded rental was a Signature Series Town Car which did great job with the heavy bass.

But now I'm hooked  This is great music with great production/recording quality.

Now that I'm home and listening on my home setup - it really shines. I'm impressed :thmbsp: My favorites are Exodus and Punky Reggae Party (bonus track).

Fulfilling my AK role as the occasional wet blanket - many of the songs on "Legend" are abridged, at least on the original LP and CD. I own both.

That being said, it is a fantastic greatest hits LP or CD and a gateway into Bob Marley's music. You owe it to yourself to explore the full albums and full versions of the songs you be jammin' to on "Legend."

good choice. I also recommend the 'Countryman' soundtrack.

If you liked Marley, you might like Aswad (http://www.last.fm/music/Aswad). They've toured with Marley.

Get "Bob Marley Live at the Roxy" for what it would have been like at one of his concerts. You can almost inhale the "hemp."

I've long been a fan of Reggae, especially Marley. Found a copy of 12", 45 lp Jammin'. Side one is long version of Jammin' and Side 2 is long version of Punky Reggae Party. Truly awesome quality all around :music:

Earlier this month I attended my 4th Annual "Punky Reggae Party" hosted by a friend who lives in the country. Reggae music all day long, Liz's Special Rum Punch, volleyball, horseshoes and other outdoor games followed by a catered Jamican picnic

I love reggae and other Jamaican music and found this album in my dads collection.

Although I prefer the dub stuff, Bob Marley is still excellent. I'd also
recommend (like Iai has done also) buying Peter Tosh's Legalize it if
you like this. That album is really good too. I've still got to pick up
another Marley Album though, thanks for the reccomendations.

I just realized you missed out Easy Skanking btw, which is a great song.
And no wonder why Marley's still a legend for all....

You like bob you prolly like lee scratch perry or peter tosh. Back in the day when etree was full steam ahead and all the bootleg flac was flowing I was able to download many live recordings of Bob most were soundboard recordings taken from the original dat tapes and every last one of them is great.

Notes:
Steel Pulse supported Bob Marley & The Wailers on the European tour in June and July 1978. The twelve date tour included sold-out concerts in Paris, Ibiza, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Oslo, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Brussels and kicked off with an outdoor festival at the New Bingley Hall in Stafford

(Marley later released an album culled from some of the live shows, called Babylon By Bus). David Hinds recalls, "we learned a lot of discipline on that tour that rubbed off - rehearsal, execution on stage, how to tour, stability." He continues, "that's when the doors really started to open for us. Playing for audiences, especially those in Paris who saw the force of Steel Pulse and the force of Bob Marley play on the same bill, enabled us to sell out shows every time since then."

This is just a few out of the 30 or so shows I have. Alot of it can still be found on some of the flac sites. Along with studio outtakes and stuff. Bob was powerful and I think the world would be a different place if he were still with us.

I'm with kenindc on the fact that if you like Legend, you should go out and try to find the original full lenght versions of Marley's songs.

I'm lucky enough to travel a lot for work and in the past four months, I passed by the record store in Montego Bay's airport terminal twice and had the chance to buy two original Jamaican pressings of Survival and Rebel Music...Priceless!

Legend is a great intro no doubt, but only that, to a catalog of music that deserves a much closer listen. An inexpensive way to dig deeper into the Marley legacy would be to pick up the fantastic 4-disc box set Songs Of Freedom. There are used copies on Amazon for less than $20, a fantastic deal for more than 4 hours of music.

Another uniformly excellent box set is Lee Perry's Arkology. Been listening to that one a lot lately...

My fav Marley album is "Natty Dread": excellent recording with some great horns.
I would be remiss if I did not state that Bob and the Wailers owed a lot to Curtis Mayfield.
