I'm sitting here watching American Idol with my kids and out comes Rod Stewart to sing Maggie Mae.

Atlantic Crossing was one of those albums from my teen years, that makes me smile after hearing anything off of it. It still gives me chick related butterflies in my stomach

Haven't listened to it in years. Damn, I really need to dig that out again.

Rod's original version of Maggie Mae is my favorite song.

But tonight on Idol Rod put a kind of disco beat to the song and his voice sounded bad. I thought he stumbled once or twice on stage and looked out of it.

Get it together, Rod.

Not a big fan but watch it with my chillin's. It actually was a entertaining show tonight. Honestly, the Lambert kid didn't do much for me. Too theatrical. I could actually listen to the Chris kid.

Just to let you know,in case you are looking for the song again,Maggie Mae was on Every Picture Tells A Story, not Atlantic Crossing. But I always liked both albums.

I liked Maggie Mae but it was the Atlantic Crossing LP that I remember fondly. Every Picture Tell a Story was a good one also.

Chris sound just like every joe smoe on the radio and that is why he won. He has more "commercial" type of talent and will sell a gazillion albums to teeny bopper girls.

Even though I was pulling for Adam to win, I'm sorta happy he didn't. Hopefully now he can make an album his way. Alot of times the runner ups actually do better than the finalist.

Well, there ya go then. Do I detect a hint of bitterness in your voice? ;)

I think Adam would be a perfect fit in Queen, alot more so than Paul Rodgers. Tonight could have been his audition.

Yes, yes and yes! IMHO Paul Rogers (though good with Bad Company) killed whatever left of Queen.

The song, "Maggie May" was probably my favorite of his. That song used to wake me up for several weeks on my clock radio during the early part of my freshman year in high school. Always seem to come on at the same time just as the alarm clock kicked in. That was the fall of 1971. Wow!

Santana was cool to see as well. Lots of great acts on the show last night. Rod sounded a little horse to my ears but great none the less.

Too bad Rod won't get back with the Faces (with a new bass player).

EPTAS is one of his best.

I thought Rods performance was week. But what can you expect nearly forty years after the original recording.I watch the Idol and think its fun but it has no credibility with me.IMO neither one of the finalists were the best singer.

I saw Rod Stewart here a few months ago (live in concert). He put on a good show, especially for someone his age who'd been through vocal-chord surgery not all that long ago, etc... Thoroughly enjoyed his renditions of numerous oldies, including Maggie May, which was a favorite while growing up. His daughter came out onstage and sang a few songs, which was a treat, too (she sure isn't ugly); I wouldn't be surprised if she grows into a successful performer in her own right. The funniest part was the extent to which Rod promoted soccer ("football") during the concert. Not surprising, since he owns a pro team and will profit from promoting it, but how many rock concerts have sports logos projected on the screen part of the time (and sports vids shown during intermission), and have the star kicking balls into the audience throughout a song? That was a little weird, but, well, forgivable since the music was good. :music: He also had the 'class' to give a sincere-sounding 'thank you' to everyone who spent their $$ on the concert during a serious downturn (this was when the financial news was about as negative and "scary" as it ever got). Coming from a guy as wealthy as he is, and sounding as sincere as it did, it was nice.

I agree. On the local Radio Station here the DJs were talking about him being gay like its a big deal even if he is. That made me think of who else is in the rock arena and who first came to my mind? QUEEN of course! And there's one of the greatest singers that rock N roll ever had with Freddy. Then Queen came out last night and when ever Adam sang Brian May would look right at him like he was seeing Freddy again. I could toally see the admiration theat Brian had for the kid. He fit right in. Who thinks somethings gonna happen there? Adam will be doing some kind of project whether it be big like an album or small like a single but something is gonna happen. I could see it Brian May's eyes, he really like performing with Adam.

Seeing Rod on there last night made me think of those South Park episodes where they have Rod looking like he's 100+ years old in a wheel chair and can barely sing. Remember when he says, "Pooped 'em". Hilarious! That cracked me up thinking about it. But man, I dig me some Rod Stewart....no matter what.

He sounded pretty horse and was out of key a couple times, but dude is pretty old and doesn't tour regularly so what can you expect.

That Chris kid winning is a total travesty, he frequently sings flat and is just boring.

Gokey would have been my choice but Lambert should've won given the finalists. It won't matter though, nobody will remember this year's winner in a couple years and Lambert will be burning it up on Broadway like Clay Aiken for a long time.

Rod just about fell on his ass walking to the mic - wonder what he was doing backstage before hand? :scratch2:

I saw some coverage of the Hong Kong show in a HK audiophile magazine. What's the demographics of the audience? Any bad feelings left over from what Rod did decades ago at the Miss HK beauty contest?
