Got 2 of these with the same fault, left channel neither plays or records but it does erase.
Check around both boards kinda says everything looks ok and voltages between channels are the same so I'm beginning to lose hope.
Should have a manual on the way but damned if I can see or find anything wrong and it seems odd they both have the same fault.
Nothing on the 'net as far as I can find so anyone here have any ideas?

Heads checked and not o/c by the way, it's as if the left channels are muted.
C'mon guys, help me out 'cos I don't want to chuch them.

Manual arrived and 1st fault traced to op-amp dead 1 channel that drives both the headphones and also the meters.
Changed that and then found the switch for record prevention stuck.
Freed that up and working nicely for all of 10 mins and then both channels dropping out together intermittantly.

Looks like the mute circuit which is activated by 2 switches on the transport so took it apart and cleaned them with mans best friend (Deoxit).

Put it all back together for about the umpteenth time and worked great, for about 10 mins, and back to both channels dopping out in playback.

Checked the 2 switches again and contacts are fine and both working as they should.
Desperation setting in so start to look for something stupid and after studying the schematics again find that the on-off switch is not on the incoming mains, its in the dc lines of the power supply and indications are the contacts are bad causing loss of volts to replay amps.

Got fed up and went to bed and not had the courage to touch it since.
Why would anybody put the on-off switch in the dc supply lines?
Am I missing something here or just plain stupid?

They had better sound ok after all the trouble if I ever get them reliable.
Back to using the battered ex-studio Aiwa XK-007 that takes a licking but just keeps on ticking!
