I spent some time (too much time) last night trying to create compilations with songs where one artist covers the previous artist and have it loop back around. I used the site: secondhandsongs.com The key is to start with an artist who spans many generations and stay away from really new artists. It seems that this works best for 80's material for whatever reason. It's a lot of fun and I may even submit some to itunes as a comp. The only criteria I use is the song has to be released on something obviously, preferably something I can easily obtain.
Here is the first one:
1. Willie Nelson "Time After Time"
2. Cyndie Lauper "When You Were Mine"
3. Prince "Every Day is a Winding Road"
4. Sheryl Crow (and others) "Flesh and Blood"
5. Johnny Cash "Row Boat"
6. Beck "Diamond Dogs"
7. Bowie "Cactus"
8. Pixies "Head On"
9. Jesus and Mary Chain "Reverberation"
10. 13th Floor Elevators "Baby Blue"
11. Dylan "Mr. Bojangles"
12. Jerry Jeff Walker "Pick Up the Tempo" (which is a Willie song)
Obviously people like Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson are great for this because of the numerous songs they have covered and had covered. I stay away from all the newer bands many pop punk because even though they have covered a lot (Like AFI, Blink 182, and New Found Glory) no one really wants to cover them.
See what ya'll can come up with.
