Well last night Rosalie and I were treated to a very intimate show put on by the group Romantica. The Soiled Dove Underground in Denver is a 300 seat venue that, at best was 1/3 full. They were followed by one of my favorite female singer/songwriters Carrie Rodriguez! The show was awesome and I was lucky enough to get a picture with her! If given the opportunity to see/hear this very talented lady, I urge you to do so!

Too bad, as Ms. Rodriguez is certainly photo-worthy!

She had a live disc come out not long ago that's really wonderful...material from both of her albums, and pretty well recorded!

I'm liking her new record. I'm learning her song El Salvador on my guitar, so I get to listen to it a lot lately. Nice photo! (http://s172.photobucket.com/albums/w9/gonzp/?action=view&current=P1010494-1.jpg)

P. Shivers and JimJ Thank you very much for the photo help!

The new record, Live in Louisville is very good. I think Ms. R's band sounds better live than in studio.

Big Carrie fan here!

I have seen Carrie live twice. First time she opened for Lucinda Williams and I liked Carrie's set more than Lucinda's. Second time she played at the Ark, a small club in Ann Arbor. They did not have a drummer at the second show, but I did not miss him once the music started. They were absolutely great live both times, I will have do find the live disc.

As for her records, the first disc was not really her band, they were a studio SUPERGROUP! When we saw her at the Ark she said that making Seven Angels was like, "playing with her heros!" Check out the credits, Chip Taylor (acoustic guitar); Bill Frisell (electric guitar); Greg Leisz (pedal steel guitar, dobro); Richie Stearns (banjo); Javier Vercher (saxophone); Viktor Krauss (upright bass); Kenny Wollesen (drum)

That being said, the guys she tours with are great musicians, so freaking tight! They could really get that 'atmospheric vibe' of '7 Angels' across live, something many groups I have seen can not capture. The drummer played without his drumsticks several times, just using his hands to get a unique soft acoustic sound.

I like the first record more, but it might be because I am a fan of that 'Sad Bastard' type of music.

For a real treat check out her cover of Neil Young's 'Cortez the Killer.'

Those shows were before I was admitted to SMAC!

It is funny though!

That is an awesome version of Cortez the Killer! Thanks for sharing.

Thursday night she had Hans Holzen on Guitar and Kyle Kegerrcis on upright bass, no drummer either. The drummer and pedal steel guitarist from Romantica joined the band onstage for the final encore.

Ms. Rodriguez has not yet become overly popular. As I said, she was very accessible after the show! She chatted with my wife and I for 20 minutes and took quite a few pictures with us.

To have seen Carrie and Lucinda on the same stage on the same night would have surely been a treat!
