I read somewhere, ages ago, that Donovan's Mellow Yellow had nothing to do with smoking banana peels, as was widely assumed back then; it was actually an ode to his wife's favorite bright yellow "pleasure implement" (which was somewhat banana-like)...

That Jackson Browne song that started this thread is one that I heard plenty of times when it was current, could even sing along, but never caught on until a couple of decades later. Still makes me laugh that I didn't catch it.

I was thinking the same thing while reading this thread! In fact wasn't there a compilation years ago called "The Copulating Blues", or something to that effect, that had a lot of these collected together?
