I was just wondering if anyone else has had problems with this design, as I know that it is used on decks other than this one. The problem that I have is that the auto-reverse is intermitent. I took the roller next to the post off a while back and everything seemed fine with it. Seems that if I clean the post that contacts the foil to the roller, that it works ok. Maybe too much tape residue is building up on the post. Another possibility is maybe not enough back tension. I'm not too crazy about adjusting that, as it works fine otherwise. Anyway, I was getting ready to take another look at it and just thought that I would post this thread to see if anyone has any thoughts on this.

Did you lubricate the spindle while you had the roller off? If you use a silicon base lube, it will not conduct the electrical signal to the grounding post when the sensor strip makes contact with the roller. Try cleaning the spindle and roller bearing surface thoroughly and use a Q-tip with a drop of 4in1 oil to lube it SPARINGLY. Also there is a very light gauge spring attached to the roller that must be situated correctly for the auto reverse to function correctly. Let us know if this helped.

I remember the spring in the roller being messed up when I got it. I believe that it is supposed to ride against the spindle, and think that it may not have had enough pressure against it. May take a few days but will follow up with what I find.

I increased the spring tension as in the photo, and it seemed to work, however I backed off the tension some and cleaned with contact cleaner/lube. I attached a photo. I assume that the way the spring is situated is the main idea, but probably too much tension in the photo so I backed it off some.
