Hi guys,

My name's Emmanuel, I've been a guitar player for about 15 years, and only now am I really getting into recording the stuff I do.

I have 3 pieces of recording gear: an Akai 1721W reel to reel, a Tascam portastudio 464, and I just scored for free an Akai MG1212 with around 30 cassette tapes.

I'm here to get some help for the RtR, more specifically on how to degauss (erase) a tape, and that will be helpful too for the obsolete MK20J cassettes.

Many thanks in advance for welcoming me on this board.

Bonjour Emmanuel.

I would start by looking in the Tape forum of AK. There are several "sticky" threads that might answer your more general questions. You can also do a search within that forum (or all of AK) to see if your question may have already been answered. (Use the Google search option as the AK one doesn't seem to work as well.)

If your search yields a thread or two that addresses your topic, go ahead and ask your questions within that thread and you'll probably have everyone who has already responded to the thread see your question. And, if your question isn't found, feel free to start your own.

Bienvenu! AK is a great place to be.

(BTW, your English is excellent.)

Welcome to AK Emmanuel. Post a thread in the Tape forum about your concerns. There is a great deal of collective knowledge here. BTW, I toured your lovely country with our local American Opera company and was treated royally by the french local stage personelle. I had an especially wonderful time in Toulon. My memories of that visit will stay with me forever.

Thank you Asha, I'll do what you suggest.
And thanks for your comment about my English skills, I love that language, have been studying it at University level, I'm also married to an American woman, it helps!

Thank you too KingBubba!
Your impression about France is refreshing, it's a pleasant change from the traditonnal horror stories many tourists can tell! :D
Peace!
I love the US, been there 6 times, first as a language student, then I came back to visit the friends I made on my first trip, and last time I traveled to Fairbanks, AK in order to meet my in-laws. That was also unforgettable.
