I love Southern rock, specifically Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker, Govt Mule, Outlaws, as well as jam bands with a Southern tinge.

My question is, which of the Drive-by Truckers recorded output might appeal to someone like me with fairly conservative/traditional tastes in southern rock? :scratch2:

Recommendations/suggestions are appreciated.

Southern Rock Opera or The Dirty South, IMO.

Southern Rock Opera or The Dirty South, IMO.

I agree, for what it is worth.

I'm a bit partial to 'A Blessing and a Curse'. More accessible to the new-found DBT fan (and includes the closest thing they ever really had to a 'hit', in 'Gravity's Gone', which received a lot of airplay on college stations and is a great modern-day anthem of sorts).

i think all DBT records are pretty good, but Southern Rock Opera is maybe the best.

Pizza Deliverance also has some gems on it. A Blessing and a Curse or The Dirty South are also very good. The Dirty South is more thematic and should be played all the way through while Blessing is more individual track based

don't miss the opportunity to see them live if you can 3 plus hours of crankin'

Jason Isbell has left the band and has put out 2 good solo efforts as well

I used to be a huge fan, and I think Southern Rock Opera is the best of their studio efforts. I don't think they are anywhere near as good as they were with Isbell in the band however, and I saw them a couple of months ago at the Recher theatre in Baltimore and was really disappointed - I actually wouldn't make any effort to see them live again after that performance.

All of their albums have some gems on them. I happen to like all of them but the one getting the most play lately has been Brighter Than Creations Dark. I have seen them live 10+ times and NEVER been disappointed, it always 2 1/2 to 3 hours of ass kickin rock. Good times! The album that got me hooked was Southern Rock Opera.
