View Full Version : Pioneer Sx-9930
bsam8 08-18-2004, 10:24 PM Hi guys! Just got a Pioneer SX-9930. According to the seller, this is the euro version of the SX-1010. Can't find any info on this unit.
Will a service manual for the SX-1010 be applicable to this model too? Would appreciate any light you can shed on...
Thanks!:)
Trawlerman 08-19-2004, 01:45 AM Wow nice kit there Bsam8. The Optonica looks particularly cool.
According to the Stout Associates Specifications Bible (great resource btw) the SX-9930 is a European version of the SX-993 but with a black face and was built from 1974-76.
70w Output into 8 Ohm load
40lb Weight
Cost 600$ in 1976
in with the old 08-19-2004, 02:20 AM It's a 939 black face. There is only one SX 1010 (just ask the owner SKI)
bsam8 08-19-2004, 07:42 AM Guys, thanks for the info. Had these feeling it's not the Sx-1010.
But not too bad though, she sure sounds sweet but I'll have her reconditioned by my tech here in NY. (would love to send this to EW though-Hi Glenn!) Just got to look for a another SX-1010...
Thanks again..:)

Thanks Trawlerman, got the Optonica from GYUSHER. This thing is MINT-sounds very good. Can give the Pioneer's a run for the money...:D
gyusher 08-24-2004, 05:10 AM Here is my 1010E. . .very similiar. . I see now the 1010 has at least one more toggle switch. . .
bsam8 08-24-2004, 01:47 PM Wow!! Guy, now that is MINT!!!
gyusher 08-25-2004, 05:05 PM I like them both ways. . .
lights shine for the photo....
I usually show both after 20,000 pictures of receivers etc in the last two years. . . I average about 50 to 100 pics just getting 8 or 9 for an auction. . . After over 200 receivers I think my very best deal was the camera. . .
That 1010 is just a sleeping beauty. . .
gyusher 08-25-2004, 05:07 PM Lights camera action. . .

JonTee 08-25-2004, 08:09 PM Bsam8, just a word about the SX-9930/SX-939. I have both the 1010 and the 939 and there is very little difference sonic wise between the two. The 1010 is more forward, especially in the high mid/low treble range, but they both have the same excellent mid's, and strong punchy bass. Personally unless, you need the extra 30 watts, I would not ditch a 939/9930 to get the 1010.
I would also add that my 1010 has been restored while my 939 is bone stock and unrestored.

JonTee, thanks for the advice, I will bring the 9930 to my tech for reconditioning-tuner alignment and such, but I did was able to get a SX1010 from Audiogon in near mint condition as the seller stated. After reading all the posts here in AK about the 1010, I just got to hear for myself and maybe even have EW work on it too down the road...

Benny Hill 08-26-2004, 03:09 PM hey JonTee, how about some pics of your two receivers, the 1010 and the 939?
thanks.

JonTee 08-26-2004, 10:46 PM Benny,
I thought I had decent pictures of them, but I must have deleted them inadvertantly while moving files. Here is quick snapshot of the 939 on top and the 1010 below. The cases are the same width with the 1010 being a little deeper. Also the top panel on the 939 is vinyl whereas the 1010 is wood veneer.

RocknRoll 08-29-2004, 06:52 AM Jontee - That is beautifull pair and I am still searching for the 1010! The 939 is close but walnut wood veneer is better!
