Maybe it's just me, but it boggles my mind how folks seem to have this HUGE disconnect between how they think ebay works and reality.
I just finished talking with a coworker about some items I'm selling on ebay and he said he had tried selling and it sucks. I agreed with him but after questioning further I found out why he had failed so miserably. It turns out he had done all of his auctions as 1 day only. He said that since bidding seemed to only happen in the last few hours, then 1 day auctions were all that was needed.
I tried explaining in the best way I could how this was the problem and not ebay, but he still is stuck on getting the concept.
Why does common sense get lost when dealing with all things ebay? :dunno:

Tell him it can take several days of searching the listings for people to to come upon his items. Then when you have a few people who know they want to bid on what you have the bidding war begins.

It's not all things e-bay... I find most people never acquired any common sense about anything..
I always thought you went to college to be taught critical thinking... funny thing about it is, I find most people that went to college don't think period, and most people that left school early to work their life away turned out to be the thinkers..

Often wondered why they call it common sense when it is so uncommon.

That was the case years ago, now they are mainly turning out robots to suit the needs of particular businesses. In almost any newsgroup today watch the people who post from a .edu site, few if any can compose a proper English sentence.

Scammers seem to do fine with one-day auctions! ;)
If you want critical thinkers and writers, send your kids to a good liberal arts college. It really costs no more to go first-class—if you qualify for financial aid. :thmbsp:

I tried explaining the concept of a multiday auction in analogies (like hanging up fliers prior to a garage sale) but it all fell on deaf ears. I've noticed that "real life" analogies don't seem to carry over in people's minds to the virtual marketplace. It's some kind of mental block I think. Kinda like the folks that still think that snipers "steal" away items at the last minute. :sigh:
And as far as I know he sold some good quality stuff at a loss. I'll find out more from him tomorrow but he deals with pricey aftermarket car parts.
Maybe his ads just sucked with no pictures and terrible descriptions. :saywhat:
