I have a Johnny Rivers LP that has a single 1/4 inch hump on the edge. Has anyone successfully removed such a defect? It is sever enough to make the arm jump each revolution. If I could improve it enough to play once I can record a cassette.

No.

Trust me, I've done plenty of experiments. Bad edge warps cannot be fixed. Best to find another copy.

I don't really think there's any way to repair all the damage that results from a warp and end up with a playable LP.

The closest I ever came to success was by making the LP the meat in a glass sandwich and leaving it out in the sun for several hours. It got the warp out pretty well but the heat that caused the initial warp also caused the vinyl to shrink. The disc was out of round. The result was that whenever the stylus reached that part of the record the shrinkage would toss the stylus in toward the center of the record.

The guaranteed 100% method of fixing it is buying a new one.
