Anyone bringing a DAC to this meet?

I am picking up a used Cambridge DACMAGIC and hope it arrives in time to be able to bring it.

Unfortunately I am a DAC rookie too and I don't even know how to connect it to my Apple MAC yet.

I guess that DACMAGIC isn't so magical after all. ;)

I was Up North a week ago and saw that Trower's concert had made the front page of the Bay City Times, now that is magical!

The easiest way to hook up the DACMagic to the Apple is either through USB or mini optical to optical. Just change the output in the audio midi settings in the applications folder to external output device. I would also recommend changing the output to 24 bit 96khz in case you have any 24 bit material.

I can bring a 3-into-1 I/O switcher, from Wardsweb's workbench, if that will be of use. I have no DAC, but I would like to try my Jolida FX10 (the glasscase EL84 integrated from the Fest), with the second system speakers. Someone bringing a source?

I can grab some munchies, once I'm on the US side. Homeland Security won't allow most foods across the border.

I will be coming with a subwoofer to extend the bottom. Please bring recordings that will punish a subwoofer (16 hz organ pipe) It is a JL Products 12" sub with 240 watt plate amp in a 3.1 cu ft cabinet. Made of 1" particle board and many internal braces.

I need to go to Graduation Party in Waterford Saturday evening and it would be easy for my wife to pick me up from Dennis's.

Dennis, are you planing on comparing the DACs using your computer as a source?

I have no cables other than the USB. If anyone has any used digital/optical cables laying around I may be interested in purchasing so I can play around with the DAC and some old CD players I have laying around. So far I am just using it connected to my IMAC.

Hi Olson, I have a Sony SACD and, I think, the right cables.

Didn't know you had a SACD player. I'll bring some along.

Thanks for hosting another SMAC meet. Had a great time. Not sure if I have any idea which DAC was better since I chatted more than I listened. The Edgarhorns look real nice now that they're refinished and mounted. We appreciate the hospitality:thmbsp:

Thanks Dennis for another great meet!! Both sets of speakers sounded great yesterday, but your big JBL hybrids really are something special; I hope some gets some pics to download as they certainly look great too now that you've made that driver stand and finished the Edgar horns.

The DACs were all very interesting, but it's too bad we couldn't get them all hooked up and swappable for a real head to head shootout. I had a chance to hear at least 3, but they were in different systems with different amps, so one really couldn't judge what they specifically brought to the table. But I certainly liked what I heard, and have been began prowling around DAC threads and reviews.
