Jeff olson_jr 06-19-2009, 06:04 PM I am picking up a used Cambridge DACMAGIC and hope it arrives in time to be able to bring it. Unfortunately I am a DAC rookie too and I don't even know how to connect it to my Apple MAC yet. Drybasement 06-19-2009, 10:24 PM I guess that DACMAGIC isn't so magical after all. ;) Trower on Sunday. In Bay City man. The "home of rock and roll". lol olson_jr 06-19-2009, 11:53 PM Trower on Sunday. In Bay City man. The "home of rock and roll". lol I was Up North a week ago and saw that Trower's concert had made the front page of the Bay City Times, now that is magical! What did they call him, a rock or guitar God? djnagle 06-20-2009, 02:08 PM I am picking up a used Cambridge DACMAGIC and hope it arrives in time to be able to bring it. See you then. radar2866 06-20-2009, 04:07 PM The easiest way to hook up the DACMagic to the Apple is either through USB or mini optical to optical. Just change the output in the audio midi settings in the applications folder to external output device. I would also recommend changing the output to 24 bit 96khz in case you have any 24 bit material. olson_jr 06-20-2009, 11:20 PM Thanks Mike, just need FedEx to get here now. I have no DAC, but I would like to try my Jolida FX10 (the glasscase EL84 integrated from the Fest), with the second system speakers. Someone bringing a source? I can grab some munchies, once I'm on the US side. Homeland Security won't allow most foods across the border. olson_jr 06-22-2009, 08:24 AM From: Robert Bellair Date: Sat, Jun 20, 2009 at 10:07 AM Subject: RE: Update: June SMAC Meeting 6/27 Jeff, please forward this to all. I can't send out this many on hotmail. I will be coming with a subwoofer to extend the bottom. Please bring recordings that will punish a subwoofer (16 hz organ pipe) It is a JL Products 12" sub with 240 watt plate amp in a 3.1 cu ft cabinet. Made of 1" particle board and many internal braces. Bob jmathers 06-22-2009, 11:08 AM Ashok is bringing the Keces 131 DAC he had at the Fest as well. Jeff olson_jr 06-23-2009, 05:17 PM I am looking for a ride to the meeting from the west side, I am in Canton. I need to go to Graduation Party in Waterford Saturday evening and it would be easy for my wife to pick me up from Dennis's. luvvinvinyl 06-23-2009, 08:49 PM I just heard, today, that I can't get Saturday off, now, after being told that it was all set. :tears: Have a good time, anyway, fellas. djnagle 06-24-2009, 09:02 AM Well, that's a drag Luvv. You will be missed....but more whiskey for me and my men!!! DC 06-24-2009, 08:48 PM Don't think I have any equipment worthy to bring, but I am willing to bring a bottle or two. What is preferred? djnagle 06-24-2009, 09:17 PM What ever you want Don, we ain't picky. See you then. ashok 06-25-2009, 06:51 PM Unfortunately, I have to back out of this one. My apologies. But the DAC is available to take if some one local to Ann Arbor is going. I will check with Squid and Doug. grumpy 06-25-2009, 08:36 PM No DAC's here but id consider bringing over my CDP if it didn't weight 80 pounds... DC 06-25-2009, 10:42 PM Any other winos besides me? Maron 06-26-2009, 01:34 AM Damnit Luvv , I was looking forward to hearing / seeing that Jolida amp . How do you like it ? airflyer 06-26-2009, 02:19 PM Any interest in the Benchmark Pre 1. I live in the neighborhood and will bring as well. grumpy 06-26-2009, 02:22 PM I think Dennis mentioned wanting to hear the Benchmark so its probably a good idea. By the way welcome to AK. Punker X 06-26-2009, 02:27 PM Won't be making this one. Forgot about a wedding and have family in from out of town. Will definitely make the next one. olson_jr 06-26-2009, 04:18 PM Got the DACMAGIC and it seems to work well. Dennis, are you planing on comparing the DACs using your computer as a source? I have no cables other than the USB. If anyone has any used digital/optical cables laying around I may be interested in purchasing so I can play around with the DAC and some old CD players I have laying around. So far I am just using it connected to my IMAC. djnagle 06-27-2009, 11:07 AM Hi Olson, I have a Sony SACD and, I think, the right cables. grumpy 06-27-2009, 11:56 AM Didn't know you had a SACD player. I'll bring some along. Should I assume no vinyl today ? luvvinvinyl 06-27-2009, 08:01 PM Damnit Luvv , I was looking forward to hearing / seeing that Jolida amp . How do you like it ? Maybe the July or August meeting... jmathers 06-28-2009, 07:40 AM Dennis: Thanks for hosting another SMAC meet. Had a great time. Not sure if I have any idea which DAC was better since I chatted more than I listened. The Edgarhorns look real nice now that they're refinished and mounted. We appreciate the hospitality:thmbsp: Jeff jn229 06-28-2009, 10:15 AM Hey Dennis Had my bass hungry cd picked out, had a full tank of gas, then work called. What a disappointment missing your meet:tears::tears: Talk to ya next month. Jim Andyman 06-28-2009, 10:41 AM Thanks Dennis for another great meet!! Both sets of speakers sounded great yesterday, but your big JBL hybrids really are something special; I hope some gets some pics to download as they certainly look great too now that you've made that driver stand and finished the Edgar horns. The DACs were all very interesting, but it's too bad we couldn't get them all hooked up and swappable for a real head to head shootout. I had a chance to hear at least 3, but they were in different systems with different amps, so one really couldn't judge what they specifically brought to the table. But I certainly liked what I heard, and have been began prowling around DAC threads and reviews. Thanks again for the fine day of music friendship, food and drink!! :thmbsp: slow_jazz 06-28-2009, 12:29 PM Pictures would be great... I had to miss it because of the Downriver Cruise yesterday... dmax99 06-28-2009, 03:53 PM Great way to spend a Saturday Afternoon. Thanks, Dennis for hosting. djnagle 06-28-2009, 04:01 PM My pleasure. I had a great time and RIGHT after the last person left, my wife and daughter walled in and started cleaning. Thanks to them I had a truly enjoyable evening. perchdog 06-28-2009, 04:02 PM i agree, a great way to spend an afternoon.... as always very pleasent and a great crowd. thanks for hosting dennis, i was really glad to talk to you breifly about the hagerman. i am thinking i'll give the octal design a try. DC 06-28-2009, 04:26 PM Yes, what all these guys said! Ski 06-28-2009, 05:33 PM I too had to miss it because of the Downriver Cruise. I live right off the main strip and before I knew it we were having a party. Drybasement 06-29-2009, 12:42 PM Yup, a very good day it was. Thanks for hosting Dennis. Those were some cool speakers too. Nice job! And thanks for letting me borrow that Gene Harris cd. luvvinvinyl 06-29-2009, 12:46 PM ...The DACs were all very interesting, but it's too bad we couldn't get them all hooked up and swappable for a real head to head shootout. Damn, sounds like you really needed that I/O switcher. Sorry. Andyman 06-29-2009, 03:25 PM Damn, sounds like you really needed that I/O switcher. Sorry. Actually, there was a bit of a crowd up there trying to hook things up initially. You know, how many audiophiles does it take to swap in a DAC...:D grumpy 06-29-2009, 04:43 PM Actually, there was a bit of a crowd up there trying to hook things up initially.
