Stopped by one of my usual local GW locations today and there sat this lil' puppy, a Nakamichi CR-1! Price was $9.99......I scooped it up and found myself a shopping cart lest anyone else was ready to take the gal away from me. She's missing the record level knob but looks to be in good shape otherwise. Hopefully I'll be able to find a knob to make do with! :)

Excellent! Nak gear is very good, even their non-cassette stuff.
I do not think Nakamichi made any bad things.
I had a CR-2, or maybe it was a CR-1...

CR-1 was the 2 head Cassette Deck that thought it was a 3 head...nice deck...I bought mine new in 1989...$299 IIRC...nice score...

Looks like you're missing both the Rec Level Master and Balance knobs.

I can't quite tell from the pic.

The diagram on the unit indicates the Rec Level Master was the big center knob and the Balance knob was the outer ring. For my purposes, the Balance knob was adjusted 2 dots left of center and you can feel a detent at center (12 o'clock). Master is 4 dots left of center (smooth travel no detent).

Without actual knobs you'll have to do some guessing for any adjustments. I suppose you might be able to improvise something to put on the shafts like cardboard discs marked with a line to at least gauge approximate adjustments.
