For quite awhile I have been trying to come up with a "compact" system for my sleeping quarters. Back in Feb I got a Sony HP 810 compact set off Ebay. It came with a Dual 1214 turntable. I was not impressed with it but got the Dual running. Frozen motor. Was going to put my Dual 1009Sk on it but found a free Pioneer SA 730 integrated amp at the landfill. So that ended the Sony
Thought about selling the Dual 1214 separately as I had a base for it. Or parting it. They aren't so great. It had a good idler and plug in headshell. That got decided when the "Mrs" readch over it to get some garden stuff and it ended up on the floor:tears: Instant broken arm.
Fast forward to last week. A friend who I gave a system too was complaining he cant listen to it with the kids and the wife. He asked if I had anything kicking around for his garage. Just gave away a nice early 80s Kenwood free from the landfill. All I could think of was a crappy 80s Pioneer and then remenbered the Sony that got sent to the garage across the street. My new "parts" center. Told him let me do some digging.
Today we got rain in southeast NY--again! Off today and no yardwork. Took a Dual 1009 I got on Ebay--29.99 with shipping. Yeah another one. Got three of the original 1009s in the house. This one is really nice. The auto cycle needed no grease. Doesnt even slow down. Motor is quiet. The Ebayeri said he did not have time for it. Fixed a crack in the arm. Did a little rewiring on the headshell. Put on a Pickering cart I got from another 1009. The auto return wasnt fully returning got it fixed this AM. Brought the Sony over from the garage. Dial lights out. Remembered why I dont like Sony compacts--hard to work on. But its going in his garage and he doesnt care if the lights work. Put in the Dual 1009 in place of the 1214--and Super Sony HP 810 was born. Not a bad set for a garage. The FM works fine too. Another piece out of here. And out of the landfill. Though I hate parting with the Dual 1009. Will tell him if the Sony fails I want the Dual back:D
This is the same guy who stack LPs and 45s. Last month I got him a 1009 with both tall spindles--so he can use them on this set too:thmbsp: Stilll looking for a KLH model 35
