View Full Version : Do they play basketball in Argentina?
Wireworm5 08-27-2004, 11:03 PM Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the US lose to Argentina at basketball today. That's like Canada losing to Japan in hockey, a national shame:butt1:
Well its only the Olympics you can redeem yourselves in ahh... lest say four years.:smsex:

Shain 08-28-2004, 12:05 AM Argentina played TEAM basketball. That's all you need to do, to beat a US team made of the NBA players.
Look at the winner of the NBA this last season. The team that played the best TEAM basketball (as in 5 players playing together), and played some defence, ....won the championship.
The team with the most talent at one on one BB lost. (LA)
asynchronousman 08-28-2004, 12:27 AM Promptly note that they no longer believe in Zen or Cajun Supersized too. Any year Rick Fox can look better than most of the team is a sign that management needs to get back on the parquet and sweat too. What's more, the real irony is that so many ex-Trailblazers (including former coach Rick Adelman) made it to the playoffs when once again Portland choked. Oregonians must be tired of cheering for Utah. I certainly am. I was proud of Detroit like I haven't been since I just got out of high school.
Wireworm5 08-28-2004, 12:32 AM Well the Olmypics might not be that important to Americans but when it comes to hockey the 4 big international tournaments are the Olympics, World Cup, Canada Cup and World Juniors. If Canada doesn't send our best to these games we are going to lose. Losing to another hockey powerhouse is not shame, but to lose to a 2nd or 3rd rate hockey country would be. There would be no acceptable excuses if Canada were to lose to lets say a country like Japan. Even with players that don't make the final cut they should be able to win.
I would think basketball would be likewise for the US. What other international basketball tournament is there besides the Olympics?::smoke:
WhiteSE 08-28-2004, 12:45 AM Well, first of all, argentina has been pretty good in international BBall for a long time...
Argentina was one of the first countries to hire non prime time USA talent into their teams,,,I know, because I was there...
The homeboys from USA BBAll, are mainly all muscle and no brains,,,they cant adapt, they are all about athleticism...But its easier to cancel out physical talent than team play.
The only way the NBA players would have won the gold, would have been with Shaq, because even international BBall wont have an answer for that...
Argentina had also beat the USA in the Panamerican games...
Shain 08-28-2004, 11:14 AM There was a clip of an Argentine player on cable channel a few minutes ago, and he said what I wrote earlier about NBA players.
"They have more talent but they can only play one on one."
"Don't play as a team"
grumpy 08-28-2004, 11:59 AM Shain Hit the nail on the head. That Bunch of NBA prima donnas was no TEAM.
Guess they weren't getting paid enough to win...
WhiteSE 08-28-2004, 12:03 PM I think the longest pass I saw the USA do was 2 ft,,,lol
Andyman 08-28-2004, 12:22 PM Larry Brown must be losing his mind trying to coach a bunch of hot dogs after coaching a team to the NBA championship.
Isn't his ole buddy Allen Iverson one of the Olympic players??? I don't know; haven't been watching.
WhiteSE 08-28-2004, 12:27 PM Iverson was there,,,Duncabn was there, Madbury was there,,,,,thats all I remember...
But now,,,,remember the whole argument used years ago about black athletes being better anthropomorphically for BBall and track and field?? I wonder what they believe now that caucasian and chinese athletes are battling for doinance as well.
Shain 08-28-2004, 12:42 PM USA team didn't have good consistent shooters, believe it or not !!
Very few shots made from 15' out. Low percentage.
And the free throw shooting sucked! The womens team shot a higher percentage !
(10 of the all the Olympic womens teams shot higher percentage freethrows)
If their 3 shooting wasn't affective, then it was big trouble for them. Most of the games they lost, they didn't shoot well from the outside. (let alone no defense, or team play)
The mix of players wasn't good. No center but Duncan. Needed another center.
Too many 6-8 forwards
Needed shooting guards
NBA sucks and I won't watch much this up coming season, and haven't for several years.
Where's the old Celtics and Lakers???
I'm done bitching... Bye
WhiteSE 08-28-2004, 12:45 PM I am lifetime Laker fan, and now that Jerry West is gone, so is their good Karma.....
The NBA is all F**d up...look what the bloody players did to Byron Scott with the Nets....

The inmates are running the asylum. It's the same thing with Kobe in LA.
That's why the Piston's Championship was so sweet. A bunch of relative no names hammering the stars of Tinsel town. I just don't think the party will last very long; it never does. Oker is gone and I'm not sure what's up with Rasheed Wallace.
Bottom line, is it's all about the Benjamins.
Yup bunch of ball hogs all trying to score, Kobe shoulda been there to make the team complete.
Remember the first dream team? Bird, Magic, Jordan, not a one of the current team could even carry their jocks. 3 of the all time greatest, perhaps 3 of the top 5 ever and they played team basketball, put their egos aside and played the game. Guess we'll never see that again :(
