View Full Version : Caddisgeeks new digs
caddisgeek 06-22-2009, 12:55 AM Hi we bought a new house recently, and are getting it ready to move in. Designed by a very clever architect in 1954 with heaps of really cool features. It's in one of the nicest parts of town, near schools parks etc, has a full 1/4 acre block with established fruit tress. Here's some pic's are post the progress as we get it ready
thilaseen 06-22-2009, 02:32 AM I presume we're all invited to the housewarming.
Hope you and the family enjoy it.
caddisgeek 06-22-2009, 02:37 AM Uh, yeah, can only fit about 7-8000 in the backyard, so get the rsvp's in to avoid dissapointment
doucanoe 06-22-2009, 03:18 AM Very nice! I will be awaiting my invitation ;)

caddisgeek 06-22-2009, 05:31 AM OK you bring the potato salad
Sandy G 06-22-2009, 05:35 AM Nice ! We'll be expectin' pics of the inside, as well, so's it'll be easy to find all the stuff to steal...(grin)
thilaseen 06-22-2009, 06:51 AM You can start with the JBLs but I think he's bolted them to the floor.
Mattwizz3 06-22-2009, 07:10 AM Hmm, I'm within driving distance and dont have to cross large masses of water, I could bring beer. That house does look pretty unique for the 50's. I feel sorry for you in a way, moving is a massive pain in the ass. I moved into this house about 4 years ago and I was tempted to just buy new stuff instead of moving it.
Sandy G 06-22-2009, 07:29 AM You can start with the JBLs but I think he's bolted them to the floor.
I don't think he's got a lot to worry about from ME coming & rippin' him off...For one, I don't do stuff like that, its just not right. Second, sposin' I WAS to rip him off, I think my Get Away Vehicle, a 2000 Ford Excursion, would be a bit obvious, & rather easy to track down, I don't think Oz is exactly over-run w/them, & third, I never have taught it how to swim, & Callifornee is too far away to hold my breath...Lastly, don't you fellers use Silly-Meter wrenches, bolts 'n' stuff ? Well, that right there would flummox the whole deal-If he's got them JBLs bolted to the floor, & they's Silly-Meter bolts 'n' all, all I have is Inch Tools, no way could I get 'em up 'n' outta there...(grin) My Life of Crime thwarted...By a buncha Bolts !
dokblues 06-22-2009, 09:23 AM Congrats on some obviously cool new digs. Hope you enjoy the house (after the move) that is. :thmbsp:

caddisgeek 06-23-2009, 09:01 PM No single sided, bookshelf on one side, kindling box/seat on the other
Beautiful! I love the crown molding as well!

Sandy G 06-24-2009, 06:21 AM VERY nice !! GREAT potential-Looks like the house has been well cared for...Do you guys have Home Depot down there ? We also have HGTV, a cable TV channel that's pretty much exclusively dedicated to folks who buy & refurbish/update houses. Think you done good...(grin)
pioneervato 06-24-2009, 08:52 AM Nice digs. Should look awesome when done.
Strangeband 06-24-2009, 09:10 AM Congrats on your new digs, Steve. It looks like you are making lots of progress in transforming the inside. I did a double take at that fire till I remembered it is winter in your part of the world.

Yeah...My sister visited some friends in Sydney around the 4th of July several years ago, & it was just plain COLD there...All she had brought were a couple of windbreakers, & she liked to have froze to death...

We dont have Home Depot, but we have a place called Bunnigns which I think is basically the same thing. This will be the 3rd house we renovated. We just finished the place we are currently living in and have made some major changes there (demolished walls moved rooms about, new kitchen, new bathroom etc I'll post some photos later). But this place will just be cosmetic work for the moment, then an extension later, which I'll get the professionals in on, cos I'm over spending every weekend and holiday working on my house
Sandy G 06-24-2009, 08:22 PM ...An' in addition to HGTV, we have all the renovation shows on PBS-the public TV channel- on Saturday afternoons. The New Yankee Workshop, Hometime, This Old House, etc...Its enuff to keep a frustrated carpenter/woodworker salivating for a LOOOOOONG time...
caddisgeek 06-25-2009, 06:07 PM Floors are finished
jdrum1 06-25-2009, 08:34 PM Wow you work fast! floors look great.
Spectrum77 06-25-2009, 08:56 PM What a beautiful house. Hard to believe you and your family haven't been put off renovations by now. The period features remind me a lot of a similar vintage abode I had on the beach at Mount Martha years ago. Will you show where the sound system will go? Any plans for treating that room?
caddisgeek 06-25-2009, 09:11 PM Thanks for the kind comments everyone.
In answer to your question Spectrum, the house system will be downgraded (no JBL's) for a while, and will probably fit in the dining room. I have some nice stand mounts (Celef & Epicure) that will go well corner loaded I believe. We have plans to build a large family/ theatre/ audio room off the back of the house in the next 12 months, so thats where the JBL's will live. In the meantime however I'm setting up a study/mancave in the garage to house the furniture speakers for the meantime (just no room in the house). I'll be working hard to have the new room audio freindly as possible.
2 weeks to we move in so I better get the finger out

Well I kinda am, each time I said never again, then get sucked back in.......
This isn't too bad though, all the work will be done before we move in, and its all fairly straight forward at this stage (I'm a qualified painter & decorator, so I can get through this stuff fairly quickly)
Any major work I'll be paying the pro's to do
Sandy G 06-25-2009, 10:41 PM Wow....That looks GREAT !!! Ya done Good...(grin)
caddisgeek 06-25-2009, 11:34 PM Some shots of the old place
Where the kitchen is used to be an office (bought the kitchen on ebay :thmbsp:)
Where the dining area is was once the bathroom
the kitchen then became the bathroom and a walk in robe for the master bedroom
Did everything myself except for the electrical an some of the plumbing
Unfortunatley no before shots :thumbsdn:
Sandy G 06-25-2009, 11:49 PM You got a pretty good "knack" for that stuff, Bunkie...Consider yrself lucky. My carpentry projects look more like Larry, Moe, & Curley did 'em...
skippy_ps 06-25-2009, 11:50 PM Nice new digs. That's a heck of an antenna on the chimney. Nice on the inside, too.
Murray
