Played a cassette of Queensryche's "Empire" in the car on Thursday. Good stuff. Also have Mindcrime on CD.

As a big Dio fan, I enjoy a lot of 80s metal, like Dokken, WASP, solo Ozzy, and a bunch of others.

I dig most things, from Queensryche to classic metal like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin to Iron Maiden and the harsher stuff like Slayer and everything between. Also new(er) stuff like Strapping Young Lad, Ministry and Fear Factory and real noise like Tankard, Cannibal Corpse and Suffocation.

I have been known to play an album and go see a show here and there, not much of the mainstream stuff anymore though. It is prog metal, goth, folk, doom, viking, and some black metal these days.

I saw Enslaved open for Opeth last month. :)

I have all of Queensryche's CDs and Operation Mindcrime is one of my favorite CDs. I've been trying to find all of the metal vinyl I can. I scored a Motorhead Ace Of Spades and some early Judas Priest that I didn't have last week.

A Pioneer SX-3900 that I had caught fire while I was playing Black Sabbath back in '87. The reel to reel is on my RT-707 at this very second!

Opeth is another band I`ve grown very fond of last couple of years...Very skilled (for being swedes :) ) they sure are!

Prisoners, the guy to the left in your avatar is god :) (sorry, God)

Check out Satyricon also if you need a dose of "heavy" (the album "now diabolical") can be a good place to start for a "beginner" :) Some of the songs there are impossible to play loud enough (imho)

not very HQ liverecording from Moscow, but it makes me wanna see them live : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h08Y7v2vxdc

Btw: It`s more than 30 degrees (celsius) in the shadow in (usually quite cold) Oslo, Norway right now... I`m melting!! (7 pm!)

Saw Judas Priest last night at Milwaukee Summerfest...it was the best sounding, most enjoyable Priest show that I've ever seen, and I haven't missed a tour since 1981.

It seems they grow older "in style" :) can`t really think of any "weak" link in that band ? they just "mature" (?) somehow .. skills are KEPT, imho.. and Rob still has his excellent voice intact..

This is not BRAND new, but new new enough to give you an idea... Personaly, I simply LOVE this... (even though I`m more into the speedier stuff... this clip show`em off more as musicians)

I have to agree that it was one of the most enjoyable and best sounding of their shows that I've seen, but I have to say, I ranked it #4 out of the four Priest shows I've seen. Now before you leverage the full weight of your previous attendance to deliver me an ass-whipping let me state right up front........I had a great time. You couldn't go wrong seeing them live in a damn closet. Here's my breakdown of the good and the bad........

The good....

-$8 Priest tickets
-Surprisingly good sound for the venue.
-Unique tour providing an opprotunity to hear some songs you may never hear live again.
-Great crowd energy with a nice variety of hardcore Priest fans and newcomers.
-Having my two daughters at the show and schooling my near-future step-grandkids on the virtues of a live Priest show.

The bad.......

-The bleachers set-up in front of the Harley stage cut off sight lines for those who weren't standing on the benches (we weren't).
-The venue was a little small for the band. In 23 years of going to Summerfest (on and off) I've never seen the Harley stage, and the surrounding area, that packed.
-A couple cut-outs on Glen's rig early on.
-Rob seemed to fade a bit on You Got Another Thing Coming (granted, he sounded great up until then).
-No freakin XXL Screaming For Vengeance T's

Just for comparison sake the other shows I've seen include (in order of preference).........

#3 Angel of Retribution tour (Allstate Arena)
#2 Masters of Metal tour (Tinley Park)
#1 Defenders of the Faith tour (Dane Co. Coliseum - the infamous 'tornado show')

There was a very cool vibe in the crowd however and, as I said before, there is no such thing as a bad Priest show.

Great post Jonesy! I agree with the good, and as far as the bad...? Yeah the bleacher set-up sucked. I stood along with everyone else otherwise I couldn't see a thing. I was about 18 rows back dead center but being only 5'10" I had some obstructions. I also saw last year's Tinley Park show but I thought Sabbath were the better band that night.
I was very happy to hear so many great songs from British Steel, for me the show's hi-light was "Steeler". It's such a fast-paced song and to see those guys belt it out was amazing. I really excited for the 19th on the lakefront!

Evidently they messed up the digi-pak run of the new Amorphis album. They put up the 2 bad songs for download until they get their disc exchange program going.
So, here is the link to grab the two songs lossless from the label.

Listening makes me want to get off my keester, run up to Rasputin's and get me a copy.
Great stuff. They are an outstanding show live too. :)

Just picked up Queensryche/Operation Mindcrime. Metallica/Garage Days revisited (or is it re-revisited), Iron Maiden/Flight 666, Electric Eel Shock/Go USA and Tool/Undertow, all new vinyl.

I'm a huge (early) Scorpions fan. Grew up with the hair bands of the 80's, metal..?.

Listening to Amon Amarth right now after seeing them (on video, not live) at Wacken.

The post isn't nearly as good as that avatar. Nice job man!

I do agree that it was great to hear H&H at the Masters show last year. The seem to be getting better with age.

It's good, of course the only thing I have to compare it too was the cassette I had many years ago. I'm not really in the realm of what you might call critical listening, it's probably all in my head but I've convinced myself that I like vinyl over cd's and tape.

One thing I really notice is the weight of most of the new vinyl (all 180gr I assume). The metallica new vinyl didn't seems as heavy (weight) and just looked a little "cheaper' than the rest of my new vinyl. I picked up the Flight 666 picture disc and just the sight of those pictures spinning round and round just added to the whole experience.

I've been a bit dissapointed in most of the newer vinyl I've been buying, it just doesn't seem to sound as good as the older stuff I've been getting. Also, every new record I get seems to be warped. The Queesryche record sounds pretty good though.

Big Fan of 70's hard rock/metal, but 80's not so much. I can't get past the drum sound on most 80's metal.
