One of my fondly remembered records from the 70's is the brown Linda Ronstadt album "Don't Cry Now", her first produced by Peter Asher and with lots of great players featured as well as some good tunes. I have two seemingly excellent condition copies, both sound terrible in spite of cleaning, re-cleaning etc. So, bought a sealed copy of it, very excited to open-no better at all, tons of surface noise, just not good. This was on Asylum, I have other albums on that label that sound fine, not the best but OK. Does anyone have a good sounding copy of that album? If so I'd like to know what to look for.

Sometimes the production just sucked....
Wish I had a good copy to give you.
Looked online for a half speed master, no luck..

You are definitely right about the production not being good sometimes, but that is not what I mean with this record. The vinyl itself just blows, bad pressing or something on the copies I have. One of them has a solid blue label insead of the clouds thing and is somewhat better but still no good.

Either get the new 180g or a West German original pressing. The West German Asylum original pressing is miles better than the murky, noisy, USA original Asylum pressing. I also love the Japanese Asylum/Pioneer original pressing. The treble boost common to many Japanese masterings benefits this title. It's really quiet to boot.
