Hi all,

I am moving to ATL at the end of the month and wondered if anyone here regularly shops at the famous Criminal Records. Can you offer any thoughts or a brief review?

Criminal Records moved to a new location last year and added a much larger record department. I went in early on and was able to make some good buys. However, who ever was doing their buying did a pretty crappy job and they got loaded up with piles of LP's that didn't sell. Someone told me a few weeks ago that there was no reason to go over there.

That's the bad news. There are a number of other places in town to get your record fix. Some are:

Fantasyland (Atlanta)- probably the best selection in town

Wuxtry Records (Decatur)- He can be pricey but gets good stuff. One of my favorites

Kudzu Antiques (Decatur) - An antique mall with 3 or 4 record dealers with booths

LowYoYo Records (Chamblee) - Well worth a regular stop. Only open Friday & Saturday

Wax & Facts (Atlanta) - Been around forever. Around the corner from Criminal Records

Sounds Good (Marietta) - Only open on Saturday. Very knowledgeable owner, neat guy

Full Moon Records (Atlanta) - Owner is very picky about condition. You won't not buy a record because of bad condition

Atlanta Record Show (Atlanta) - Every other month on a Sunday. Next show is August 9th. Great place to buy records.

If you want any additional information let me know. I'll be glad to help.

Terry

Thanks Terry,, I am a native Atlantian,,and honestly forgotten about some of these places,,it's good to know they are still around.Thank you sir.

Edit; whats embarassing is the fact that I lived a couple of miles from Sounds Good and did not know it was even there,,now I'll have a place to go when we visit my wifes mother on Saturdays-thanks again

Thanks for the list, Terry. One more to mention is Circle Sky Records at 3633 Chamblee Tucker Road. And let us know when you hit town, Doverfish, and if any of us here can help you with other info.

I hate to admit it but I put that list together from memory. Probably could have included addresses as well. It's a fact, I'm hooked.

Sounds Good moved a couple of years ago and is now near the intersection of Sandy Plains and Piedmont. Not real easy to find but he's there.

I was going to reply but Terry included every record store I have visited in the last 20 years :music:

One other store I have luck with occasionally is CD Warehouse. It is a chain; I visit the store at Roswell Road and Abernathy in Sandy Springs. They typically have a pretty decent used vinyl section; however, they do not sell new vinyl.

I will also second YoYo records - it is a real hole in the wall, but they have a great collection of vintage vinyl (a lot of good jazz.)
