View Full Version : Picked up a Sansui AU-517 yesterday
SpeakerLabFan 07-14-2009, 01:42 PM Yet another nice one showed up yesterday afternoon on local CL. I hurried down after the commute home. It was setup in a garage but with power nearby.
This turned out to be the guy selling a pair of B&O speakers for $25 earlier in the day. Nice speakers but not enough incentive to make the ~10 mile trip. I asked about them but they were of course gone when I came for the amp. I brought headphones + patch cord and MP3 player for source so I was able to verify output. No picture in the listing, so I was happy to see the rack handles!

cpmschd 07-14-2009, 06:00 PM Hey... what's that Kenwood amp? I picked-up a KA6100 (50 WPC) and a matching KT6500 on CL from a guy in Alderwood. $150 was a fair price since they were very clean. I am using them as "garage units" with a cheap-o $39 Samsung DVD/CD player and re-foamed Advents. I like the silver look. But I think I like black better! And I prefer the Sansui "sound" -- as I fired-up my AU-317 (50 WPC) through the same Advents and it seems to put the KA in the rearview mirror.
SpeakerLabFan 07-14-2009, 10:39 PM Hey... what's that Kenwood amp?
It's a KA-8100 that I picked up (http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=209984)a few months ago. I have a soft spot for Kenwood integrateds since I started out with a little KA-3500 amp (didn't everyone? they must have sold a zillion of those amps) back in pre-historic times.
oldhifiguy 07-15-2009, 01:10 AM got a 517 sometime back and like the heck out of it. running a cd thru a dacmagic and the result was great. also had a KA7100 to keep the sansui company but just sold it and replaced with a cambridge 640 v2 75 watt integ yet to be fully hooked up. the 517 is in fine cond also but gave the rack handles to a fellow AKr here in CA. I prefer the flat look.

And they are currently serving their purpose on my AU417.:thmbsp::thmbsp:

lha1992 07-15-2009, 04:33 PM Nice score on that Sansui! I also like the Kenwood!
Snade 07-15-2009, 04:43 PM One of the few black amps that I always liked - like the look, like the sound. My younger brother has one.
Very nice. :thmbsp:

I agree Mark, and these Sansui AU series have a great layout and readability with white labels unlike most black faceplates with nearly impossible-to-read controls. Not to mention they sound REALLY nice.

Hey Casey, new car...cool stuff, would like to see it. I'll be around all weekend, stop by if you're in this neck. :thmbsp:
I'm going to put the Sansui pieces in their own room / rack with some speakers and an Adcom selector; you need to stop by and see the recent acquisitions.

Look on today's CL and you'll find one of its bigger brothers, matching tuner and AR90 speakers...not a bad price, either.
edit: not mine, just to be clear. Just something that tempted me but I resisted.

Good point.
Shows they really cared about the design from factory assembly line to your home! :thmbsp:
