Hello

My Marantz 2245 has been having some unpredictable problems with the right channel. Generally after maybe 30 minutes of listening, it will start to crackle in and out. Occasionally to the point of almost totally obscuring the music. Sometimes it doesn't happen.
Sometimes I notice that it correlates to the left most dial light fading in and out. Once it correlated to ALL the dial lights fading in and out.
It only seems to happen with the AUX input (to which I usually hook up a CD player), but it may just be harder to notice it through the popping of Lps and the radio.
I have done some pretty thorough DeOxiting. I am a capable solderer and have a copy of the schematic. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks

You may have over DeOxited it? Radioshack sells compressed air. Try some and see if it clears up. Did you deox any of the trimmer pots on the amp board?

If the lights are dimming sounds like either a short from the deox or a failing cap. Either way a recapping and or once over wouldn't hurt.

Thanks for responding.

The symptoms were there before the DeOxit treatment, so I don't think that's the problem.
Didn't deox the trimmer pots, i'll give them a look.
A short is what I had in mind as well. Should I change all of the Caps, or is there a specific board to start with?
What do you mean by a 'once over'?

Don't Deoxit those trim pots on the amp boards. You might have a bad solder joint or a transistor that acts up when it gets hot. I don't know where a bad transistor would be for this problem, but hopefully someone can help, and you can hit it with freeze spray to pinpoint it.

If it correlates with lights fading in and out, it may be the power switch.

Try to bypass the power switch with a jumper (don't do this with the receiver plugged in the wall outlet!), plug the receiver in the wall outlet and see if the problem is still present.
