If buying, carefully check the dual core filter caps for excessive bulging and leaking from the bottom. IIRC, you can see the bottom of the caps through the bottom cover. These caps are unobtanium. I've seen two pairs of new caps installed, which probably sounds much better than stock but kills the collector value because they are not original. Also, make sure the FM tuner can tune in stereo. While this may be a minor problem like a simple muting adjustment, it can be a bad multiplex chip which is also unobtanium.

3k is a bit high, may have been the high water mark.... I have seen them go for 2K or under.

Really nice stuff the 2500 and 2600. But wow, are they prone to breakage. And fixing is very expensive, difficult and sometimes impossible. Look under the hood and really check this thing out!

Oh, forgot about the supposedly weak toroid in the 2600. If the toroid runs hot to the touch, I would be very concerned. The 2500's toroid is not stretched to the max and I presume is more reliable.

The 2500 still has the same kind of problems with the toroid transformer as the 2600 does, but the 2500 is a little more reliable.

The 2385 is the one with no known problems with the transformer.

Anyways, I think if your 2500 or 2600 has survived until now, the toroid has passed the test of time and is good.

The 2385 doesn't have the amp cooling tunnel or the scope to run.

You are right about that, plus the 2500 puts out 250wpc and the 2600 puts out 300wpc, versus the 2385 with only 185wpc.

All that puts a big load on the toroid.

What i know is that the very first models of the 2500 and the 2600 did not function very long. usually because the transformer (a dual secondairy one) blew up.

marantz superscope build ''soft start'' circuits in these models.
My 2500 is still 100% original
and the 2600 i got has been refurbished and one power channel has been repaired other then that 100%.
