what memorable thrift store / curbside find, other than audio gear?

I found a near-new Samsung VCR/DVD, complete with book and remote!

and...in Tennessee in 1981, at a yard sale; got a belt buckle for 25 cents...holding a silver dollar! (I still have it)

My all time favorite: I found a absolutely mint condition Ricoh Aficio Monochrome Copying machine at a GW. It was marked for $70 but it was 50% off day so $35. It worked perfect. I took it to work and sold it to the company I work at for $400 . . . . . :thmbsp:

Mid-Century modern Lane dresser in very nice condition at Salvation Army for $40. I saw the same one at a vintage store for $1000.

Also, a couple of mid century modern Steelcase pedestal swivel chairs for $5 a piece at a different SA.

I've furnished my apartment in vintage-modern from CL and thrifts.

Sweetest curbside find? Did money exchange hands?

A couple of nice suits from the DAV and Goodwill, a really cool art-deco dresser from the SA (it's been following me around for years, I need to get off of my butt, build new drawer assemblies and refinish the whole thing), a nice stick vac found next to a trash can, and some other odds and ends. Nothing too extreme.

Best thing I ever found at a garage sale: my girlfriend, at her garage sale! She gave me a hug and her phone number - now we're nearly joined at the hip. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Absolutely true! Did I say she's a good cook?

I found a sign on a curb next to a pile of stuff.
The word "FREE" was written on the sign, so I took it.

Recently I found a self propelled lawn mower, just needed the pull start fixed.

Back when I was about 9 or 10 I found a whole box full of “adult magazines”

I'll second that question!!!

My whole house is furnished with mid-century design all found at thrift stores, garage/estate sales, or curbside finds. It would be too hard to choose which one is the best. If I stick to stick to audio gear I have to list: pair of JBL 4311 studio monitors near mint $30 at a thrift, Bang & Olufsen 4004 Tangential Turntable $25 at a thrift, but best of all a very nice pair of vintage JBL C40 folded horn speakers (price my secret, but a mere fraction of their value at an estate sale).

My house decorated in "not so early american garage sale" = recycling at its best = priceless!!!!

I found a edger on the curb once. Was a somewhat expensive model at the time, if i remember right. In anycase, problem was the previous owner apparently did not know, (or wasn't bright enough to know), that before putting in new oil, you must drain the old first. So when it started it sprayed oil everywhere. Some serious clean up and a proper drain/fill, etc, worked fine for years.

Another curb dive find was a 70's era console T.V. It worked, but the screen had serious color problems. Green and purple, etc. So on a hunch i whipped out the demag coil and what do ya know, looked just fine aferwards! Gave it to my grandmother.

My aunt has two originals - a two-person bench and a chair. She knows I lust after them.
