This is my 8,888th post on AK.

In Chinese, the number "8" rhymes with the word for "prosperity", and is considered an auspicious number. For this reason, some people here in Hong Kong pay big premiums for car license plate numbers or addresses that feature the number eight.

In keeping with that spirit, I'd like to dedicate this post to wishes for the enhanced prosperity of all AKers:

May the unemployed workers among you find satisfying and well-paid jobs.

May the idle entrepreneurs among you find inspiration for lucrative ventures.

May the actively employed be promoted and given raises.

May the business owners here find increased sales and new sources of profits.

May the investors among you earn substantially higher returns than you anticipated.

May the speculators among you find windfalls at every turn.

May you all be protected from losses, and find silver, gold and platinum linings in any apparent setbacks along the way. If you have been suffering, may this day mark the turning point in your fortune.

May AK itself find the resources for continued growth and success.

May your increased wealth be used not only for the expansion and improvement of your audio systems and collections, but for higher purposes, as well.

May your wealth be extended to all forms of wealth, not just the tangible and monetary. May you be rich in wisdom, good experiences, the love of friends and family, in things emotional and spiritual. May you be well-fed and sheltered from suffering and harm, and filled with the wealth of a life well-lived.

In other words, the heck with talk of "the economy" and the negativity that is with us too often, of late! I hope y'all get REALLY RICH - in EVERY sense of the word!

And one last thing: THANKS to all of you who have put up with so many long-winded posts of mine over the past few years, and remained as friendly and welcoming as you were on the first day. That makes me feel wealthier in friendship and common-interest kinship than I ever expected to feel from any website!

I, for one am Rich, and not because I found you Arkay and AK....but because there are people like you in the world that truly wish to improve the human condition. To bring Audio Art to the masses...
AK serves to raise the music reproduction appreciation level's of all mankind (or at least the English speaking side of it).
I kind of get the feeling that It's spreading through our multilingual member's as well...
The appreciation of vintage audio reproduction is an art form that will reap benefits for generation's to come, and set standard's for the future.

Yes, my first born was born "naturally" on 8-8-1988. Pregnant women over in China at the time, if their due date was even close to 8-8-88, were either being induced, or were having "C" sections to make sure their babies were born on that date. My daughter now will share her 21st birthday this year with over 5 million Chinese people born on the exact same day! :D

Next time you come, give me a heads-up, and I'll take you 'round to some audio showrooms/shops and such. I'm not sure that the Star Ferry is still quite THAT cheap, although it remains one of the best bargains (along with the Tram line here) in transportation, anywhere.

Here's to you Arkay. When I get out later today, I will head to the local VFW and drink 8 beers in your honor.
