Hey, Fast Eddie, I hope I am not stealing the lime light here. Great score on your console.

I am getting an old magnavox today. I think it is circa 1948,1949, 1950. It is a mono unit with a field coil speaekr. It also utilizes a shortwave radio. The owner is delivering it to me today at around 5:00. Here are some pics.

The tuner has got a nice understated industrial look to it. Too bad it's not the slightly earlier 155 unit with the optional fm tuner.

Not identical, I guess, but durn similar to the AMP-101 in the first post.

I am guessing the AMP 101 is a monophonic bi-amp??? I should know in about another hour.
It's Christmas time for me.

It looks like it's a transformer coupled push-pull parallel 6v6 output with provisions for internal and external speakers via a switch. Looks like a precursor to the PPP mono AMP142 that I recently pulled out of a console.

Looks like you'd have to change 3 paper caps and two 30uf/10uf can caps to fully recap the amp.

Very nice looking console. Is that a garrard 301 sticking out of there?

I have two 6V6 PP amps at home.....so I'm kinda familiar with the that tube.

The Russian Tung Sol 6V6GT tubes are really good new production tubes.
Heads and tails above the EH and JJ tubes, IMO.
As far as coupling caps, don't overlook the Dayton Film and Foil Polypropylene caps from Parts Express.
They are quite good and VERY inexpensive.

Have fun with your new amp!!

That's what I thought! If that's so you really scored, I've been looking for one of them for 2 years now (that I can afford...).

I've got that same magnavox only in Mahogany . . . VERY NICE SOUND

and ya know .. .if you find the correct FM tuner online, you can add it, since the radio chassis has provisions, and there's a blank panel above the tuner where it'll fit :D

surprisingly, the TT is nice too. .. for 78's :music:
