I use the poly-lined paper sleeves from http://www.bagsunlimited.com/ and also their outer sleeves (3mil).

So far I've ordered 5 or 6 times from them, always good communication and prompt shipping.

In the interest of reducing my environmental footprint, I use neither paper nor plastic, but canvas. :smoke:

Is canvas soft enough not to scratch the vinyl?

it helps to find and have some aboriginals who will chew on it for several days and then stitch pieces together with gossamer silk

Same here, the first ones on that page. I'd buy them again in a heartbeat, well I plan onto when my stock pile gets used up.

Whenever I order, it gets shipped that day and I usually see it in roughly 3 days from the order date.

Now you've got me thinking...silk ones, woven in one piece by audiophile silkworms...

Seriously, I use Bagsunlimited also, and have purchased many different items from them. I tend to use paper because I'm a cheapskate.

Plastic is the way to go. Paper is still wood, although chewed up in quite small pieces, it is still very abrasive, and pieces tend to fall off and lodge into the small grooves of the plastic record. And wood is much harder than plastic, so when the needle wipes across it, it either drages it or gets ramped off the wood like we ramped off a plank when we so young riding our bikes. If you wish to make the recording last a bit longer, use plastic. Even the needle degrades the recording every pass, they won't last forever. Convert them to digital format if you want the same audio quality each and every time.

You make a good case for plastic phaseone, I might switch next time I buy. The static is what always bugged me about plastic.

+4 on Mo-Fi. Bought from garage-a-records. Just perused the sleevetown site, and they have a bunch of stuff I need, so I'll be ordering more from them.

. . . "Bags Unlimited" are really great and inexpesnive selections to choose from. But, in my humble opinion, it well worth the modest increase in price for the "MOFI-SLEEVES". (At the very "least" it's worth getting 25 or so - depending on how large your collection is - for the diamonds in your collection. They are really incredible sleeves made from rice paper that are VERY "vinyl friendly" in every way.)

+7 for the Mobile Fidelity sleeves. If I can help it, they are all I use, even on the standard records.

Good product, good service, good pricing. I use their Disckeeper (poly) and their Ultimate Disckeeper (poly and "rice paper") liners.

I tend to stay away from the paper (standard) sleeves. Not only do they shed paper, but they also tend to leave minute scratches in the vinyl. Not sure if that affects the sound quality, but I would prefer not to find out. I still have a bunch from the "Wax Museum". Those were nice as well, but I don't think that you can get them anymore.

I've been happy with Bags Unlimited's rice-paper-style inner sleeves. I also buy the polyprop outer sleeves with the resealable flap from them in all sizes (even for my 3" CD collection).

That's a great argument for MO-FI. There are several records in my collection that for one reason or another deserve the "kid glove" approach. The size of my collection would preclude all MO-FI sleeves.

I just added some more shelving for the last year or so thrift shop finds, which add up to about 500 LP's, 50 45's and 300 78's. When you're standing at the bin in the thrift store, it's easy to be liberal in your selections. After all, it's only 50 cents a record. Buying $260 worth of shelving and tallying up my order for outer sleeves and inner sleeves made me realize that I'll be spending close to double the purchase price to protect and store it.

Then I realize that all told I may have around $2.00 in each record, which is still quite a bargain.

+1 - I have been using all Ultimate Disckeeper since they added them to their line. They've also been known to show up as a vendor at the record shows so it's easy to pick some up there.

Yes, they sell the MOFI and their own cheaper rice version. Great price, great service. When you order, don't forget the penny samples that you are entitled to. They are a great way to check something out or get an item that you don't use often.
