Trying to find a resistor. carbon - 47 ohm -2w
Is marked Kamaya RS2B 47 ohmK (schematic says it's a 2W)
Can't locate, any ideas??

Rob 11-01-2002, 10:47 AM Shain, Have you tried radioShack? Metal fim resistor will substitute just fine BTW. You can 'make' a 47 ohm 2 watt resistor by combining smaller wattage resistors of the right value. When you place resistors in series the individual resistances add up. When you place them in parallel they produce a lower total. Either in series or parallel combos the wattages all add. Example. Buy a package of 1/2 watt carbon or metal film resistors from the shack that are 180 ohms and wire 4 of them in parallel. This will give you a 45 ohm resistor with a 2 watt rating. Close enough. Ideally you'd use four 188 ohm resistors but that value is not available. Rob Shain 11-01-2002, 11:35 AM Thanks Rob!! I give that a try. I appreciate the help! Lefty 11-01-2002, 12:12 PM Hi Shane; "Is marked Kamaya RS2B 47 ohmK " I worry a little about the 'K' in your description. K usually means add 1,000 ohm, so you may be looking for a 47,000 ohm resistor. Is there colored coded bands on the resistor? This would help verify what you are in need of. You mentioned a schematic, does it also say the ohmage value? If you have the service manual then there might be a parts list in it that would also verify the actual value for this resistor. You first must make certain of what value you are in need of. 47, 470 and 47,000 are all standard resistor values. 2 watt resistors are not very common anymore but can be bought. I use Digi-key mail order for my parts. They have a web site and I see 2 watt resistors avalible in my digi-key catalog. Lefty Thatch_Ear 11-01-2002, 01:46 PM I second that. About the K part. If this is located right around a transister I would suggest keeping it carbon. I know that with tubes that it is important to use carbon that go to ground close to the plate as it sounds better than wire wound, OR SO I HAVE BEEN TOLD. Wire wound will work, but the carbon might sound better. Shain 11-01-2002, 01:47 PM No, it's 47 ohm, I just slipped an extra K in there. Thanks thought, for pointing out what could a real mistake. Again, Thanks for the help!! Rob 11-01-2002, 02:30 PM All, I just re-read Shain's post and indeed I missed the 'k' which would have meant 47,000 ohms. In that case four 180 K resistors would have done the job. Shain has cleared this up luckily. Digi Key isn't going to sell you one resistor. Thatch, I wasn't referring to a wirewound when I said metal film. I agree that wirewounds should not normally be employed in audio circuits as they are inductive, there are specific application exceptions however. Cathode power with heavy capacitive bypass, and B+ supply dropping resistors. Rob "resistance is futile!" Wardsweb 11-01-2002, 03:36 PM Shain you should check your yellow pages for electronics parts wholesaler or surplus stores. There is a place here called A-Tex that caters to the DIY and ham radio guys. Lots of surplus and odd ball stuff about 5 minutes from my office. I could drop in during lunch and check for ya. Let me know. Punker X 11-01-2002, 04:10 PM Shain, If you can't find a sub, I'm sure my local electronics store has them. They have all kinds of odd ball stuff. They have just about any value resister from 1/4 watt up to 10 watt. X Shain 11-06-2002, 05:01 PM I ordered some from Digi-Key, and already got them. Thank's for the help though, you guys are great as usual! |
