Found a TEAC A-150 at the dump about 4 months ago, but havent had the time to service it. Needs all new drive belts, and I was wondering how I could get my hands on some. Its a great looking deck with nice big VU meters, and I neat tape loading system, so I'd really like to get it running.

...and it was my first cassette deck. The drive motor gave out and no replacements were available. I should have kept the belts. Next time I'll know...

BTW, how do you like that massive PLASTIC chassis??

I just picked one of these up today for $10 at salvation army.

the outer case cover is not plastic, its metal.

this thing is heavy and big!!! it wouldnt play, rewind or FF. the cassette door light was not working. took it apart..... stuck mech that holds the play button wouldnt catch, bent it and now it works. . rewind was also not staying down, played with it and now it works. the light was mega glued in, took it out and it lit up. stuck it back in.

went to clean the head, nothing came off it, tried again. looks super clean and no dirt came off it. a first for a used deck.

put in a cassette, wow does this thing sound nice. I have owned some nice decks in my day, my last one was a full logic top of the line Technics that cost me $400, this TEAC sounds just as good...maybe better. not much in the way of tape hiss. pretty amazing for a deck. alot of detail in the music on this thing. very big power supply.

H2s04, Did you ever get the belts? I'm curious about your impressions of how the deck sounds.

I picked one up recently; the belts are completely dry and useless. None of the keys stay depressed... I'm guessing this is because of weak belts causing the auto-stop feature to immediately engage. Or maybe mine has the same problem that bru87tr mentioned... Anyone have thoughts on that?

I got crazy with my crappy camera, and ended up with some nice pics:

Simple design makes for great asthetics...

I love how the deck light showcases the cassette. Very nice!:thmbsp:

I've got this deck, and it does sound amazing. I picked mine up at a fleamarket for like $15, belts were toast. I keep a spare bag of misc belts. Luckily the ones I had fit. The auto-stop on this deck operates from the counter, so if the tape counter belt is loose and slips, it could cause the deck to stop.

what he said. but mine wasnt that problem. keys just needed to be worked in I found and greased a bit. well the play one anyway.

but ya, a dumb design. the whole play mechanism depends on tension and like you said if the counter belt is off the player wont play.
