I generally dont like the opinion threads when it comes to deciding what to keep, but Im asking anyways because Im having a hard time deciding. I have a Pioneer PL-570 and a Technics SL-1300, both in very good condition and both sound great. I need to let one go to raise funds for another project and I cant decide which one so let me know your opinion.

I say the Technics, but only because parts are available when something breaks. That Pioneer is beautiful. I would struggle to part with it also.

Well, if I liked them equally and they were both in equal (and good) condition and if I needed to fund another project I'd probably sell the one that would bring the higher price. I'm guessing that would be the 1300.

Plus, that 530 is a knockout!

Hmm I think I would keep the pl-570 due to the aesthetics and the potential for the cue issue with the Technics. Now as far as raising capital goes I would think you could get more for the Pioneer so there is always that to consider.

Just my $.02

Edited because I thought it was a PL-570, I would still keep the PL-530 just for looks. I think in great condition they are not that far apart on price.

The cue issue is the MK II 1300- this one is a non-MK II model- a first run model.

If they perform equally to you, I'd consider keeping the Pioneer as it's probably not as common as the plentiful Technics SL series.

Does the Pioneer have quartz lock? Is it belt drive?

I made a typo, the Pioneer is a 530.

The PL-530 is a great table and as much as I like the Technics, I myself would keep the Pioneer, no question.

It'll be direct drive. A PL-570 is quartz locked but a PL-530 (in the picture) is servo.

I'll second that. You can always get a Technics at a thrift or on auction and for cheap. Not the same with the Pioneer - Keep it!

Hmmm.... you're right. I thought the Technics were bringing more but I just checked the auction site and they seem to be bringing like $100 +/- $20.

I always mess that up, maybe I should keep my opinions to myself on that model as I NEVER get it straight. :D

no big deal- I futz it up on occasion too, and I owned one, as well as a 1700 and 1700 MK II. Doh!

I'm like many above - I'd keep the Pioneer. Since there is no huge sonic difference, it's about where you want your system to go. Both have universal headshells, so both will support a library of cartridges. Both are well respected, but the Pio wins on aesthetics and reputation :)

Thanks all. I just got a Pl-530 in great condition. I am glad you think the Pl530 is a keeper.

Yes it does seem to be rare compared to the SL-1300. You can't go wrong with the Sl-1300 either. :thmbsp:
