I'm getting some old turntables going again and need to replace stylii on all of them. I have the following cartridges:
1. whatever came as original equipment on an ELAC 50H turntable- has a V-shaped logo, but no name
2. Pickering V-15
3. Stanton 500E
4. Shure M91E

Which of these would be worth spending $'s on to replace the stylus ? I really don;t know anything about the relative quality of these cartridges. I need 2 cartridges with good stylii for my current turntables (both AR XA's).

thanks - Jim

The Stanton 500E is still being made. The D71EE stylus runs from around $7 to $20. And they sound darn good. For the others you would have to get after market or more expensive remaining stock.

Which V15 is it?
If you do a search you can or last time I checked find the D50EMKII stylus which is a much better stylus than the D71E
Do a google search for the D50EMKII

I recently bought a genuine Shure M91ED stylus from LP Gear for about $43 shipped. Very nice sounding cart for the BIC 980 I use in the office.

I'm also a fan of the Stanton 500. Put a conical stylus on it and use it for your vintage mono LPs and 45s.

thanks for the replies - very helpful.
Stanton681 - the pickering is a V15/AT-2 - it came with an AR turntable I recently acquired.
I've found a couple of good prices for the D50EMKII stylus - thanks for the tip

The V15 body is the same as the Stanton 500 and will accept the same stylus.

What does the v logo on the mystery cartridge look like? They sometimes came with Elac cartridges which were really quite good, but stylii may be hard to find. And it seems to me that some of the Pickerings had a sort of v in a circle on the actual stylus holder.

Here's a pic of the mystery cartridge on the miracord 50H TT. sorry it's a bit fuzzy.

That's the Audio-technica logo. Don't know the model right off, but they tended to put the model number on the top of the cartridge; you'll need to take it off the headshell to see it.

Looks like an AT13E .2 x .7 elliptical.

I'd go with the Shure M91E with a good JICO stylus or the original Shure stylus. My second choice would be the Audio Technica cart - there are many stylus upgrades available for most AT carts.

It looks to me like either way you go you have it good so it sort of doesn't matter. You have some great stuff! My taste goes for the Stanton! I want to get me a V15 so I can see how the Pickering's sound since I can swap the stylus on them then! I want to try a Shure though! I love my Realistic/Shure R-27.

Thanks all for the replies - I removed the cartridge from the headshell- HAKaplan nailed it - it's a ATpro13E - what's a good replacement stylus for this cart ? I see lots of options with google.
thanks - Jim
