I am restoring a Magnavox Console that has a Magnavox/Collaro turntable. I cant find a model number anywhere on the unit. I fixed the motor and it plays fine, but the auto mode is not working properly. It automatically returns the arm at the end of the record but it will not move the arm to play the first track. It tries, raises a little from the arm holder and then comes down again, then the platter stops. I have tried figuring out the mechanics but I don't see what is wrong.

Does anybody recognize the model? I want to search for a service manual.

I would be great is somebody could give me any pointers as to what may be off in the mechanism.

thanks

are you using the full auto cycle (record stacked, and dropping)? the arm that steadies the record needs to be down, not sure but I know leaving it up can make odd things happen on some TT's

thanks for the reply

I have tried both with the record on the stack and placed manually on the platter, it allways does the same thing. When I put a record on the stack it turns the platter on, drops the record then the arm tries to lift and then stops.

Pull off the platter. More than likely you will see a LARGE IDLER to the RIGHT of the drive idler. This is the Mechanism idler. Instead of running off the center of the spindle like most other changers, Collaro did it this way on the older micromatics. It' all gummed up. You need to tear it completely down and rebuild it, cleaning everything and re-lubing it with White Lithium grease and Light Machine Oil.

Look up "Micromatic Teardown and Rebuild" in this forum. Step by Step on a '67 deck which is very similar to yours. Should be enough to get ya running.

I have at least 4 of this exact turntable.

When you hit 'reject', the tonearm rises, rises again high enough to move over and tap the edge of the record, which then drops. Then, the arm moves back down, then over and onto the record.

The support arm doesent have an effect on cycling the table on these models.

Also, if it is returning the arm to the rest after playing the record, there is nothing wrong with the big idler that drives the mechanism. It probably has dried-up grease issues.

Further looking at this one I believe this is a version of the older Collaro CONQUEST.
It works basically the same as the newer Micromatic.

Go here to see how the thing cycles and you should be able to figure it out.....

Clean and relube/grease all points and put it back together. It should run fine.

The same turntable was used in several forms from around 1958 well into the mid 1960's.

Let me know what you find.
