View Full Version : Goin' to the Fair tonite !
Sandy G 08-28-2009, 03:16 PM Kim, Bethany & I are gonna meet Lauriann, & go to the Gray Station-properly called the Appalachian Fair-tonight. Haven't been in like 5 years, gonna go w/my 3 favorite women, we'll have a BIG TIME ! Only thing, it looks like rain-But most of what I wanna see is inside, anyhow. And at least it's NOT a thousand degrees, like it could be. Kim & Lauriann are thick as thieves w/each other, & I don't need to tell you guys how much I worship Bethany... Will let y'all know how it went when I get back. Maybe if this goes as I hope, we'll all do the Knoxville Fair here in a few weeks...

Able to eat any of the fair food? Or stomache not quite ready?
If we don't get rain tomorrow, I've got a date myself with some fried dough and corn dogs.....

Sandy G 08-28-2009, 10:03 PM Well, we had an EXTREMELY Large Time...We ended up takin' Jess, Bethany's half brother, he's 15 or so. We got in the gate, gave the kids 50 bux or so for them to ride the rides, told 'em to BE BACK HERE at 8, & we'll see ya later...Off they went, & Kim, Lauriann & myself went thru the commercial exhibits, 4-H stuff, etc. I got tired, sat down, & Kim & LA went off & did a couple more of the commercial bldgs...I kinda like lookin' at people, so this was a treat for me.Bethany & Jess showed back up about 7.45, we'd gotten a Bloomin' Onion, LA & Kim had Good Ol' Fair Extra-Greasy Corn Dogs, Yrs Trly made do w/most of a regular hot dog, & some of the Onion. Didn't get sick. But we all had a good time, they didn't ride too many rides, and-Surprise, surprise-Bethany gave LA most of the money back...Didn't rain but a drop or 2, which is unusual, I've been there more than once when it'll grace you with a Snot-Slinger storm...Going to the Fair is sort of an end-of-the Summer tradition down here, I've missed it the last few years, LA never HAD been, I guess the last time I went, I had Bethany & Kim 4,5 years ago...
Dave1384 08-28-2009, 10:08 PM Funnel Cakes?

Sandy G 08-28-2009, 10:58 PM Funnel Cakes?
Thought I better not....They had 'em there, & it WAS tempting...but didn't really wanna upset Mt Vesuvius...Have found that when I'm out, "Away from the Home Front", the less I have, & the blander it is, the better...60 miles is a LONG way to drive if your Belly is doin' the Boogaloo...(grin)

old_tv_nut 08-30-2009, 09:01 PM Sounds great - any pix coming for us?
bgadow 08-30-2009, 10:55 PM I really didn't like going to the fair...but I've come to appreciate them quite a bit. Went to the Delaware State Fair a couple times this year to see the demolition derbies. Just fun to soak up the atmosphere (world's smallest woman, smallest horse, etc.), be in the middle of the "Americana". Some good street performers, an ag parade through the middle of it all-and the derbies are always fun. "Games rednecks play" Can't wait to go back next year.
Sandy G 08-31-2009, 06:44 AM One year my dad & I went to Moultrie, Ga, to the Sunbelt Ag Expo, which is this mega-huge farm show/country fair. They had an exhibit of antique tractors there, no Rolls, Packard, Duesenberg ever had any more love & attention lavished on 'em than these tractors did... Another thing I like are the Old Engines...ChuffchuffchuffchuffBANGchuffchuffchuffc huffBANG...Big fun !
