Picked one of these up today from Goodwill. Found a few for sale on ebay for pretty big dollars. this one seems to work fine, has the sustain pedal. I noticed a bit of static in one speaker when I turned it on, it seemed to go away after it warmed up. There are hinges on the back that lead me to beleive the top opens up but I can't seem to figure out how to allow that to happen.
Any one have any first hand knowledge of these things?
thanks

My roommate had one for a while when I was in grad school. The top does open but I don't remember how. Might be screws behind a trim strip in the front, then it hinges open. When open, you can see how it is tuned - a blob of solder is put on the end of the metal tine, and then you file off the excess until it sounds right. Fortunately does not have to be done often. I think the only reason we had to go in there was that one blob had fallen off, so that key was out of tune.
We both much preferred the sound of a Rhodes piano to the Wurlitzer, so he sold it and got a 76 key Rhodes. Heavy sucker!!
Hope you like "de vurlitzer."
