Would someone be kind enough to explain to me the main differences between the MX 136 and MX 120? In particular, are the DACs different? Are the DSPs different? Is it just that the 136 has more inputs?

Sorry if this is obvious. I'm just not getting it.

Same DACs, same DSPs.

The difference is the added inputs on the MX136. The MX136 also has a 7.1 balanced output, the MX120 only has balanced outputs for the center, front and right channel. Also the MX136 can use the TM1 tuner card to give it a built in AM/FM tuner, the MX120 can not use the tuner card.

Thanks. What is the logic in only having balanced outputs for three channels on the 120???

That's a good question. I'm just a 2-channel guy but from my point of view the 7.1 balanced output is the biggest feature the MX136 has over the MX120.

That is all the balanced outs that would fit on the back of the MX120. Your front channels are the most important.

I'm not at all convinced that balanced v unbalance makes much difference for short distances. If it does, however, I guess I could see the point in focusing on the front three v the back two.

Front channels are RIGHT, LEFT, and the all important CENTER. Which are the three balanced outs on the MX119 and MX120. Of course all of the channels are available unbalanced as well.

Interesting I did not know the 120 did not allow for the tm-1. I wonder why they eliminated that option as the 119 had it.

How about the 134 compared to the 119? I might have to swap out my 119 for something else as the analog board is bad and they do not have another. Bumming me out totally as I really like the 119.

They needed the room for the HDMI switching circuit.

Yep, the HDMI jacks take up a fair amount of space on the rear panel.

Beside the HDMI is there a very big difference between the 119 and 120?

I am faced with making a decision of either sending this 119 back for either repair or full refund....I saw a 120 that I would have to spend an additional $1000.00 on and I just don't know if there is that much of a difference, I really do not need hdmi switching.

It stinks either way as I would be without a unit for whatever period of time.

I have a MX-119 and I like it quite a bit. I am not aware of any functional differences between the MX-119 and the MX-120 besides the HDMI and TM-1 capability.

There are some great deals on MX-119 Pre/Pro units out there.
