Just got the dial lamps for my 2275 from Whsh93a. I like them! Instructions were easy to follow, even though I already knew how to install lamps. I did read the opinions of others before I tried them out. I know dispersal of the light has been a problem for some. Not for me. The light is uniform across the board. No shadows at all. I had already replaced the vellum. I always double it up since the vellum sheets are not as thick as the old stuff. It makes a big difference.

For the purists the light may be too blue. I can understand that. But I'd be willing to bet that this was the effect Marantz would have perfered to have if it was avalible. Although I firmly believe that Marantz intended some to be more blue and others to be more 'green'. Or perhaps they used different dye bases on the plastic dial covers over the years.

If there is a downside, it would be that my 2275 has to be alone on display. Put next to the others, it makes them look green and dull....

I won't change all my units. I want to keep some 'pure'. And the conventional lamps I have obtained on this forum are quality for sure. But I'm sure I will switch out 1 or 2 more over a span of time.

Thumbs up on LED

I like Don's LEDs too. This is my 2235B after restoration by Catrafter, with the LEDs. Soft, even light, and the blue looks great. I've seen some LEDs that were too bright, I don't want the receiver to light the whole room. There's some gear I wouldn't put LEDs in, like my tube Fishers.

Looks Good! That being said, I'm afraid I am a old school lighting guy. Of course it could be that I don't think that LED's can produce that soft green glow that looks so good on my Yamaha CR2040.:D

In my vintage setup I use luxeon white LEDs, they look great.

I agree with this; my Yammie 1020 does look best with that lighting, brighter would be bad. I like the green here. Blue might not look so good. My 820 is yellow. Don't care for that as much.

I still think LED's give Marantz the look that they really wanted back then. Yamaha didn't go for the light show. They wanted the green look.

Also I do like the fact that I may never have to worry about the lamps again. In fact, my 2275 plastic lamp holder was showing the beginings of melting. I'm pretty sure the lamps were orginal too.

Seems to me a way could be figured out for an LED to do what you wanted it to do though...Blue, green, lighter, darker, etc.

Time and money is everything.

I've relamped scores of green Yamahas and Kenwoods. There is no limit to the colors availabe with LEDs now-a-days. And - they can be customized to whatever brightness suits you.
