View Full Version : Many New Features
Wardsweb 10-18-2004, 05:50 PM With the upgrade to vBulletin3, we have gained many new features and moved some old ones around. From new post and searches now done from the top navagation bar to printable threads, there is so much more going on now. It will take some time to learn them all. So, take your time and look around.
Wardsweb 10-18-2004, 05:52 PM Things like the style menu. Have you found the pull down menu at the bottom left hand side of the page? This will change the "look" of your browser window to AK. vBulletin 3 is the default vBulletin look, Audiokarma Forums is the new look for AK and vBulletin 2 will be close to what you remember from the old server.
bolly 10-18-2004, 05:53 PM hey Wardsweb, your avatar, That's cool!
WildWest 10-18-2004, 08:09 PM How far away is it before we can upload jpeg etc? It says it uploads but nothing posts on the thread. Thanks...
grumpy 10-18-2004, 08:29 PM Pics are enabled now but watch those picture sizes till we get everything straightened out.
heathkit tv 10-18-2004, 08:58 PM Permit me to make an observation, critique/bitch......
When checking new messages the page lists from left to right:
Thread Last post Replies Views Forum
Didn't the old server list the forum closer to the left? That's how I recall it.....seems to make scanning for threads of interest that much easier. A little thing to be sure, but a matter of convenience for these old eyes. Often the title of the thread has nothing to do with a particular forum....which requires the reader to scan over and check which forum it's in and then decide if they have an interest in reading it.
I suppose some will flame me for picking nits, perhaps I am, but you get used to your old shoes even if they smell.

At present it doesn't seem to function, but it's no big deal...this format is probably better in most respects, if not a much more cleaner layout.
Oh. I do need to ask this. Does the new board have anyway to close those old pages I get if I'm stupid and use the Back arrow in my browser? Isn't that a potential file conflict waiting to happen if I do something there? When you post a reply, I would think you should redirect to the "new" forum layout, with you in it and any back command should take you to the current page or directory only. It was hard to do this with the old board and clicking on the file queue list in OE doesn't help if you were trying to go back to the directory or home. I do these things at 3 am, so I often just pull down the Favorites and go back to the home page to start again. Insomnia is great, huh?
NOSValves 10-19-2004, 10:06 AM Not sure if I'm losing my marbles or not here  But it seems to me about 3/4 of my posts to rescent topics are long gone ?

:wtf:
asynchronousman 10-19-2004, 03:39 PM I'm still learning. You don't use 98SE either so I guess it's probably worse gibberish. Also, maybe it's cached on my HD, although it could be confusing once or twice. But I can go back through the composition form (come to think of it I can on Google groups too) and type it again.
That seems to be Billy G's problem. Nevermind.
And Good Afternoon in Acura land...almost quitting time! :thmbsp:

They split the posts on 7 Oct or usually the break is on the 4th. Anything between then and the 18th is only on the old site. Don't post to the old site! Import the thread to this one. The two are not talking and no data from the old server gets transferred to here. This server is only serving as a redirect to allow you to get what you want before it *goes to heaven*...It's not going to be reloaded, nor am I going to crusade for it anymore. You could use an editor and resend each thread as a text file without avatars and graphics/smilies and links for attachments, but I'm going to eat my losses and try to learn this board as best as I can.
Many of the topics dated the 4th have been replied to and the threads of importance are resuming as I've seen. So import your threads now if you wish and copy any quoted references you need for context. Easiest way is to copy into Word then paste into the new post and make sure you use the correct title for reference.
Good luck and good posting.
Re: "Bunnycakes" pic :lmao: :yippy: :lmao:
zobsky 10-19-2004, 04:07 PM can't the avatar be in a seperate frame to the left of the post, .. this new format with the avatar vertically on top of the post makes the page lengthier
Kamakiri 10-19-2004, 09:23 PM Makes the pages longer but the pics display a lot better.
Now here's something interesting I should point out. On the upper right is a box called "display modes". If you reluctantly like the style of the AA forum where you have to click on each post, you can chnge it to that style, or a hybrid of both. Also you will notice that you can roll over a thread title with your mouse and see te first post come up without even clicking on the thread
AlphaLimaXray 10-20-2004, 04:18 AM Oh, okay. I can live with that kind of trade-off. :thmbsp:
BTW, cute pic, Kam, but wouldn't sausage taste better with those flapjacks? And you wouldn't be spending the rest of the week pickin' fur out of your teeth, either! :D

bolly 10-20-2004, 12:03 PM When you select "who's online", can the display be preset to a larger maximum? Presently, 25 is the default and you have to manually scroll to the bottom of the page first, increase the number from 25, then view "who's online". Just curious.
radioactive 10-20-2004, 01:09 PM if you scroll down to the bottom of the forums page its listed there who's online also like the old way it used to be but at the bottom of the page.
AlphaLimaXray 10-20-2004, 03:42 PM One new feature that I really, really like is the ability to preview an edited post. It lets you get it right - without the guesswork - before it's made public. :thmbsp:
Will we eventually be able to change our avatar titles again? I'd like to put something other than (the quite witty, IMO ;)) "Digital-to-Analog Convert" betheath my nick. If that is in the works, I'll be patient about it. Thanks.

Wardsweb 10-20-2004, 05:46 PM I added two more styles in the pull down menu at the bottom of your page; collage and split. The page stays the same, only the header changes. Just messing around.
