I think my long term plans are to find one of these amps. Maybe - maybe a 3650. But being I had one and didn't care for it, perhaps I'll stick with the 3600 as it's preamp. Or maybe a NAD preamp?

There's one on epray right now. The bidding ends in approx. 5 hours (as of 14:00 pdt) the current price is $660.00. I've been searching for one of these for a long time but, I just paid to have my 2285B restored so my audio budget is shot for now. Oh well..there always another one coming along. I hope:scratch2: :D

I can't comment on the going rate but the 300DC is one of my favorite pieces of audio gear.

It would take big bucks to pry mine away.
I have owned Marantz gear since I was a teen ( that's been some time ago :sigh: ) and the 300DC remains as one of the most pleasurable pieces of gear I have ever owned.

Great looks, wonderful sound, plenty of punch.

IMO, NAD stuff belongs in the garage or better yet, in the dumpster. You will like the 300DC a lot. Better than any of the receivers but with the same family sound. I have a 3650 with cruddy controls that I can't keep clean. Not my favorite. It's been a while since I priced a 3650 but they were more than the 300DC because of rarity.

Fair value?

I don't know the market value overseas, but if it is one of mine you are after (I have four 300dcs and two 3650s, among others), A LOT would be the answer. I almost sold one of the 3650s once, to a friend from Australia, but now I'm glad I didn't.

Incidentally, for anyone who doesn't like the 3650, get it recapped and properly adjusted! If that hasn't been done to one you are listening to, don't judge it. I've heard one be disappointing in original/stock state, but never heard a bad one that had been properly overhauled. I think most of the time, people are listening to them with 30-year-old caps in them, and aging (noisy) carbon resistors, aging (oxidized) contacts, etc... and that is why this preamp doesn't get as much respect as it probably deserves. Just my opinion, based on what I've heard.

The 300dc? Just a beautiful, beautiful amplifier! (Again, just IMO.) :music:

I had a 3650 and did it recapped, cleaned, etc... But I just didn't care for it. I can't explain it but I didn't. But I do like my 170DC and 3600 together. But the 3600 is totally rebuilt, replaced mismatched resistors, new film caps, new electrolytic caps and pretty much about as good as it's getting. But it seems to make a nice pairing with the 170. Again - redone!!!!

So I think maybe take it to the next level one day - a 300DC.

Clean all the contacts while you're in there.

SoCal,
If you don't already have it, get the liquid Deoxit D5 and directly apply it to the switches. Repeat after 24 hours. Should help with your switch issue unless the contacts are pitting.
