I love my 2-channel setup. But my surround setup doesn't thrill me at all.
It could be because of my somewhat odd room or maybe I'm just a 2 channel guy.
So now it has me thinking of trying a 3 speaker stereo setup. If my LaScallas
lack anything it is their directional sound rather than a wide soundstage.
What if I were to put a Heresy III between them and scrap the surround
speakers I might end up with the best of both worlds, a beautiful wide soundstage for music and good quality sound for movies.
Am I on the right track?
How would this be wired?

Do you have the room to put a LaScala in the middle instead? (just thinking about an even sound front)
There is a little splitter box that PWK designed. I'm sure there are others out there as well. I don't know the schematic of the PWK design. I do know Mark Deneen (Juicy Music) made a couple but I think he sold his last one.
My understanding is, you take your left/right wires...into this box and it derives a third channel and on the back side of it you have three outputs, left/center/right.
Fair warning... I don't know if these designs are adding or subtracting signals to do this. I heard this setup at one of the Klipsch sponsored 'pilgrimages' that they held at corporate HQ.
Although it sounded very good... I remember thinking that for some music it might sound strange.
Meaning... think of Queen and Bohemian Rhapsody. That song has some strong mix to the left, strong mix to the right and some strong center.
My memory is this setup I heard would have let some of the hard left or hard right bleed more into the center because of this wiring.
It was an interesting experience and on some music would sound killer. I think for other music it might cause different issues.

Looks like they might call it a 'mini box' (?) I found some references to it here

Here's a more general search

You could drive it with something like this... http://emotiva.com/xpa3.shtm
The trick is getting the stereo channel there. Or you could just use an AVR and wire up your speakers to the LCR channels.
I know, I know, I know.... AVRs are the devil. Or, if you want the oomph of that emotiva amp, use a pre/pro to send the signal out to that amp.
