I got a marantz 2500 for 1.5 year now, but i never cleaned it or refurbished it.
So i got to it this week.!

I did the power supply, pre amp, tone, FM, amplifiers, protect, peak control end fan speed control. Lot of work but it really works fine and looks too.

multipath

I tested the receiver at full power. And it gave 300watts at 8 ohm.
1KHz. And 260 at 20Hz very strong and stable!
sounds very full too, good reception from the Fm tuner.

The two combo capacitors ore not in good condition.
all 4 word, but are 50% capacity (80V 7000uF 2x2) I need to replace them.

Nerves of steel to do that work - Great job!

I've only heard or seen one of those units in a showroom. But I remember it was perched on it's own shelf far from the other setups. Up high like the "king of stereos". And from what it sounded like deserved that position.

Nice work! That beast has some huge heatsinks. Looks beautiful too, not a scratch on it! Are you going to be able to replace the dual core filter caps with four caps in that space?

I will order 4 new screw terminal caps. i need to buy 8200uF 100V in place of 7000uF 80V (combo).

I want the 510M thats the American version of the amp :thmbsp:

I've got the 510M and the 2500. The familiar Amplifier Cooling Tunnel is common to both. The 510M does not have the dual core caps or toroid. It sounds sharper and faster than either of the receivers.

Looking at the 2500 pictures reminds me how much I had to disassemble just to clean the tone controls.

I prefer the 510m or any other American build marantz.
Don't get me wrong, i like the 4400 and 2500 but there are issues. :boring:

I thought the 510M was Japanese? I'll have to look at the maker's ID plate again.

I've got a Sun Valley, CA made 1200 that is fantastic.

Since the 2500 has a soft start, I would go much bigger than 8200uF. I bought 10000uF screw terminal caps for my 2385, but I haven't had the time to install them yet.The more I think about it, the more likely I am to go up to 15000uF or bigger.
BTW, nice work, as always.

i will get 10.000uF i think, it's a standard calculated value for PA disco amps

The marantz 510M that you have is for home use, however you can instal it in your local clubhouse :D
