On a weekend visit to San Antonio, I decided to browse the SA Craigslist looking for equipment. That's when I found an ad for a lot of stereo receivers. The guy wanted 250 for all 10 receivers, but I was only interested in the Pioneer SA-5800 integrated amp he had. He offered me only $40 for it, so on my way home this evening I picked it up and took it home. Ohh man this amp makes my Realistic Optimus 1000s really sing now, even with the volume up only a few notches and the b&t at the 1o'clock position. Sure blows my newer Onkyo TX-8011 receiver out of the water (though I will miss controling the volume from the couch, small sacrifice for great sound, nonetheless). I do need to Deoxit the switches and knobs and put a canned blower to the insides. All I need now is a Pioneer TT and a great deal on some HPM100s. Pics to come soon.

P.S. if anyone ever makes a trip to San Antonio, be sure to visit antique and resale shops. Being that it's a military city, there's lots of great vintage equipment our great American troops have brought from overseas.

is a pretty good eye opener the first time you hear something like that. The HPM-100 will be a great match for that. Had a pair in Bartertown couple days ago in nice shape for $200.00 - another great reason to become a subscriber :music:
