My favourite type of photography is probably macrophotography. Making the small world appear larger. Here's a sample shot of the binding posts on my nOrh SE-9 amplifier. f stop=2.2 shutter speed was 6 seconds ISO=50 . Camera is a Canon Powershot G5 .. I had to really lower the resolution to get the file small enough to upload here so I hope this works....:)

Hey ProAc, those red and black insulators, looks like some are upside down. You can see they are tapered as well. Real nice pic though, wish'd I had a camera that took pics like that!

ProAc_Fan

Oh you know I never even noticed that. It does appear some of the insulators are upside down. All I can say is that's not my fault as the cables came already terminated. :)

I thought 800x600 was as big as we could do?? I understand size and there is more that physical size to a picture but still 800x600?? I tried to post a 800x670 (only 89k) and couldnt do it.

ProAc_Fan
10-30-2004, 04:12 AM
IIRC the file size limit is 125K so I don't understand why an 89K file wouldn't upload. If I lower the res to about 30dpi I could easily post a giant photo but I don't like doing that and screwing up the page for everybody else.

I noticed a pic of the back panel on a Denon receiver that is almost 1000x900 and the size is 233K+. . . It is posted twice.

I am curious why or how some can post huge pics and others can not??

Not bitching but very curious. . . I copied that Denon pic, reduced the size and I will see if I can post it here.

Nope I cant upload it even though I actually reduced the file size from 233 to 115K. . . Physical size is also reduced to 900x566 smaller than the original but still I cant post it. . .

Have you had any trouble with the cd-burner in the camera? It makes me nervous with it's extra moving parts, though the media is a very cheap and convenient way to go. How is the "burn" time between pictures?

Over 30,000 pics and not one hiccup. . . Over 20,000 on the first CD-RW. . . Trouble is that you can only use Sony's CD-RWs but you can use any CD-Rs

Burn time. . . very short unless at max res then it is still pretty fast. . . Plenty quick enough for me.
You can do little movies or 3 shot bursts. . . I have never had an issue with time between shots.

800X600 is the Max size and no larger then 125K. If your pics don't work ya just have to resize it or host the picture elsewhere.

Just curious Grumpy as the pic that starts this thread is 1024x768. . . File size is under 125 . . .

I am happy with 800x600 no big deal just curious why I see as many larger ones that I see. Matter of fact I posted a larger one myself about a week ago as I selected the wrong pic. . . Surprised me that it posted. . .

I post a fair amount of pictures and I get them ready long beforehand. . . If 800x600 is the limit then 800x600 they will be from me anyway. . .

gyusher, the reason that the images are larger is that they are more compressed. I can save a pic at med. quality and it can be large sized, but only use a little space. Though, if you are trying to show a quality image, it is nice if it has more info, as in digital info. Maybe we can allow larger pics in the photo area only? :dunno:

No I understand file size. . . I compress or reduce(photoshop 7) the file size of every pic I post otherwise every one would be too big. . . Not pixel size but file size. . . No matter anyway, I understand you can host your own pics allowing you to post larger pics so maybe thats the answer to my question.

Hi,

I am very new to fotos and taking pictures. I bought a Panny FZ20 in late December. I took a few fotos around the house, this is one of a friend's pet ringneck having a shower (I cut it smaller to fit in a page). I've got no idea if it's good or bad.

Boy some might think we need a life?????I have some pixs of computer boards somewhere I will have to post. My real interst in macro was spawned by some 1950's photographers that did macro and called it abstract. They took everyday items in macro that made some very cool images. I have some gelatins of springs and straw hats that are very neat.

Dingusboy, Just from what I see and can tell from your settings, although I'm not that familiar with the Canon A75. I would use JPEG Quality at the highest setting, I would avoid any digital zoom. I would also try to improve the lighting so your shutter speed is a little faster, maybe around 1/125th of a second instead, or better 1/250th, even if you have to open the f-stop to 2.8 or whatever is wide open for your camera. You may lose a little depth of field but you'll gain overall clarity.

Try using a tripod and going a little further back if you are too close, the camera focusing won't work correctly.

Great shot, Derek. How do you like the 100mm lens? I've got my eye on a Canon 50mm macro but I don't have any idea if it's a good lens or not. Thank you! I have only had the 100mm for a few days and I love it. It is also a very good lens for regular shots.

I also bought a tamron 1.4x converter to use with my lenses. The 100mm is a nice working distance for bugs that are not too nervous, but I like the flexibility offered by the converter for bugs that do not like close shots. The 50mm is a little too close for comfort for me.

You should look here (http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/search.asp?query=50mm&forum=1029) or here (http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=45&sort=3&cat=all&page=6) for information about the 50mm. I never researched that particular lens. The Sigma 105mm was the other macro lens that received great reviews.
